4. Setup

4.1 Initial Charging

Before first use, it is recommended to fully charge the BTR7. The device supports both wired (USB Type-C) and Qi wireless charging. A full wired charge takes approximately 1.5 hours, while wireless charging takes about 3 hours.

4.2 Bluetooth Connection

  1. Power on the BTR7.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your source device (e.g., smartphone, tablet).
  3. On your source device, search for "FiiO BTR7" in the Bluetooth settings and pair.
  4. The BTR7 supports connecting to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. You can switch between active devices via the "Devices List" menu on the BTR7.

4.3 USB DAC Connection

The BTR7 can function as a USB DAC for your computer or smartphone.

  • For Computers: Connect the BTR7 to your computer using the provided Type-C USB cable. The BTR7 supports UAC 1.0 (driverless) and UAC 2.0 modes. For UAC 2.0, you may need to install specific drivers from the FiiO website for optimal performance.
  • For Smartphones: Use the Type-C to Type-C data cable (or Lightning to Type-C for Apple devices, if applicable) to connect the BTR7 to your phone.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off and Screen Wake-up

  • Power On: Press and hold the Power button until the screen lights up.
  • Power Off: Press and hold the Power button until the device shuts down.
  • Screen Wake-up: Press any key or specifically the Power button to wake up the screen.

5.2 "Dongle" Mode

The BTR7 can act as a wired decoder and headphone amplifier for your phone without consuming your phone's battery. Simply press the "CHARGE" button to switch into and out of "dongle" mode.

5.3 Bluetooth Smart Switch

When connected to a computer via USB in UAC 2.0 mode, the BTR7 prioritizes the USB input and automatically turns off Bluetooth. After disconnecting from USB, Bluetooth will automatically switch back on and reconnect to the previously used device, providing a seamless experience.

5.4 Companion App Control and Customization

The FiiO Control App (available for smartphones) allows for extensive customization and control of your BTR7:

  • Equalizer (PEQ): Adjust the 10-band Parametric Equalizer to fine-tune your audio. (Requires latest firmware; only valid in Bluetooth state and UAC 1.0 mode).
  • Custom Function Buttons: Reconfigure button actions, such as long-pressing the volume key for continuous adjustment or skipping songs.
  • Firmware Upgrades (OTA): Receive and install over-the-air firmware updates directly through the app.
  • Balanced Boost: Enable this function via the app for high impedance headphones to increase power output.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Care and Charging Protection

To prolong battery life, the BTR7 features a charging protection function. When using the BTR7 as a wired decoder for extended periods, enable this function in the FiiO Control App. It will stop charging when the battery reaches 80% and resume charging only when the battery drops below 20%.

6.2 General Care

  • Keep the device clean and dry. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Use the provided leatherette case for protection against scratches and minor impacts.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the device, as this will void the warranty.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Sound/Low Volume:
    • Check volume levels on both the BTR7 and your source device.
    • Ensure headphones are properly connected to the correct output (3.5mm or 4.4mm).
    • Verify the BTR7 is correctly paired via Bluetooth or connected via USB DAC.
    • If using high-impedance headphones, ensure "Balanced Boost" is enabled in the FiiO Control App.
  • Bluetooth Connection Issues:
    • Ensure the BTR7 is not connected to a computer in UAC 2.0 mode, which disables Bluetooth.
    • Try unpairing and re-pairing the BTR7 with your source device.
    • Ensure the BTR7 is within the 10-meter transmission distance from the source.
  • PEQ/EQ Not Working:
    • Ensure the BTR7 firmware is updated to the latest version.
    • Note that PEQ/EQ is only valid in Bluetooth state and UAC 1.0 mode, not in UAC 2.0 mode.
  • Device Not Recognized as USB DAC:
    • Ensure the correct USB cable is used and properly connected.
    • For UAC 2.0 mode on computers, check if the necessary drivers are installed from the FiiO website.
    • Try switching between UAC 1.0 and UAC 2.0 modes on the BTR7 if applicable.
  • Android Compatibility: The FiiO BTR7 is compatible with Android devices for both Bluetooth and USB DAC functions. Ensure your Android device supports OTG for USB DAC functionality.
  • Language Settings: The device's display language typically defaults to English. For other languages, check the FiiO Control App for available options or consult the official FiiO website for firmware updates that might include additional language packs.
