1. Product Overview

The Vandlion V79 is a versatile digital voice recorder designed for high-quality audio capture and playback. It features a robust zinc alloy shell, a powerful 6000mAh battery for extended recording and standby times, and a convenient magnetic back clip for easy placement. The device supports voice-activated recording, noise reduction, and offers various playback functions, including A-B segment repeat. It also functions as an MP3 player and a mobile HD storage device.

2. Safety Cautions

  • Children are forbidden to play with the recorder alone. Avoid dropping or colliding with hard objects to prevent data loss or hardware damage.
  • It is not recommended to use headphones continuously at high volume. Adjust the volume to an appropriate level and control usage time to prevent hearing loss.
  • Do not use chemical or cleaning agents to clean the device, as this can damage the surface and cause corrosion.
  • It is not recommended to use this recorder while driving a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. Always ensure driving safety.
  • Always back up important files from the device. The manufacturer cannot guarantee internal data. If data loss occurs, files may be difficult to recover.
  • It is forbidden to use an overloaded charger or squeeze the charging cable with hard objects to avoid heating or fire.
  • Do not unplug the power supply with wet hands to prevent electric shock.
  • Product performance and functions may change without notice.

3.1 Function Definition and Button Layout

  1. Voice Record Button: Initiates and saves recordings.
  2. Menu/Return Button: Navigates menus and returns to previous screens.
  3. Volume/Delete Button: Adjusts volume or accesses delete options.
  4. Fixed Back Clip: For attaching the device to surfaces.
  5. Reset Button: Resets the device in case of system crash.
  6. Power Button: Turns the device on/off and controls screen backlight.
  7. Audio Input Port: Microphone input.
  8. LCD Screen: 0.96-inch TFT color display (80*160 resolution).
  9. Indicator Light Hole: Status indicator.
  10. Play Button: Starts/pauses playback.
  11. Volume "+" Key: Increases volume or navigates.

3.2 Battery Level Display

The device displays battery level on the LCD screen. A battery symbol in the upper right corner indicates charging status.

4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Device

The V79 Digital Voice Recorder has a built-in lithium battery. Charge the device when the battery sign indicates low power. Use the included USB data cable to connect the device to a computer or an authentic 5V 500mAh charger. The battery sign will flash during charging and remain still when fully charged. A full charge takes approximately 15 hours.

4.2 Initial Power On

To turn on the device, long press the Power button. The device will automatically power off after 5 minutes of inactivity to save power. If the device is in sleep mode, long press the Play button to turn it on. If the device is powered on, long press the Play button to turn it off.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Operations

  • Short Press: Lasts about 1 second.
  • Long Press: Lasts about 3 seconds.
  • The time interval between two short presses should be at least 2 seconds, otherwise the second short press is invalid.

5.2 Voice Recording

  1. To Start Recording (Device On): Push the Voice Record button to the "REC" position.
  2. To Start Recording (Device Off): Push the Voice Record button to the "REC" position. The device will power on and enter recording mode automatically.
  3. To Pause Recording: During recording, short press the Play button.
  4. To Save Recording: Push the Voice Record button to the "Save" position.

5.3 Recording Settings

Short press the Volume "+"/"-" buttons to select the "Recording" icon, then short press the Play button to enter. Navigate through the menus using the Play button.

  • Noise Reduction Settings: Options include off, high, medium, and low.
  • Bitrate Settings:
    • MP3 format: 32kbps
    • WAV format: 512kbps, 1024kbps, 1536kbps
  • Record Subsection: Set recording duration to Off, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or 90 minutes.
  • Voice Activated Mode: When enabled, the device automatically senses surrounding sounds and starts recording when the ambient sound reaches a certain standard. Recording pauses when sound falls below the standard. Not recommended for important environments.
  • Gain Setting: Adjust recording sensitivity from Level 0 to Level 7.
  • Monitor: When "monitor(on)" is selected and headphones are plugged in, you can listen to the current recording file in real-time.
  • Rec Light: Turn the recording indicator light on or off.
  • Timed Recording: Set a specific time for the device to start recording automatically.

5.4 Music Playback

Press the "+"/"-" keys to select the "Music" icon, then press the Play button to enter. Press the Menu/Return key to exit.

  • Play/Pause: Short press the Play button.
  • Select Files: Short press the Volume "+"/"-" buttons.
  • Fast Forward/Rewind: Long press the Volume "+"/"-" buttons during playback.
  • Settings Menu: Long press the Menu/Return button during playback.
  • Adjust Volume: Short press the Volume/Delete button to pop up the volume bar, then use Volume "+"/"-" to adjust.
  • Equalizer: (Note: Recording files do not support sound effects). When playing music, long press Menu/Return, then short press Volume "+"/"-" to select Equalizer, and short press Play to confirm.
  • Cycle Mode: When playing music, long press Menu/Return, then use Volume "+"/"-" to select Cycle mode. Press Play to enter and choose from Repeat all, Order playback, Repeat one, or Shuffle. Press Play to confirm.
  • Jump Time: When playing music, long press Menu/Return, then short press Volume "+"/"-" to select "Jump time". Press Play to confirm.
  • A-B Repeat Function: In playback, press the M button and navigate to Repeat Mode. The screen will show an A-B symbol with B flashing. Press "-" to confirm and play the repeat segment. Press "-" again to exit A-B repeat.

5.5 System Settings

With the device switched on, navigate to the "Setting" icon using Volume "+"/"-" buttons, then press Play to enter.

  • Date and Time: Select "Date and time", press Play. Use "+"/"-" to adjust numbers and Volume/Delete to adjust digits. Press Play to confirm.
  • Language: Select desired language (e.g., English, Simplified Chinese).
  • Display Settings: Configure backlight timer, screen brightness, and screen saver.
  • Shutdown Settings:
    • Auto Shut Off: Set power-saving shutdown from 0-10 minutes of inactivity.
    • Timer Shutdown: Set a timed shutdown from 0-60 minutes.
  • Password Setting: The default startup password is off. To enable, select "Password Switch" -> "Password On" and press Play. To change, use "Set Password". The initial password is 0000. If forgotten, enter 9999 and long press Menu/Return for over 3 seconds to crack.
  • Device Information: View software version, full capacity, and remaining capacity. (Note: Actual usable memory is less due to built-in programs).
  • Factory Settings: Restore the device to its original factory settings.

6. File Management

6.1 Copy/Transfer Files to your PC

Connect the recorder to your computer via the USB cable. The device will appear as a "USB DISK". You can then copy or delete selected files or folders to/from your computer. The device will pause current operations when connected to a computer, except for firmware upgrades.

6.2 Format Memory

To format the memory, connect the recorder to your computer. Select "FAT32" low-level formatting for Windows 2000 or above. For Mac users, select "formatted removable disk" or "Clean-up".

Note: Make sure to back up all your files before formatting, as they will be irreversibly deleted.

7. Troubleshooting

Q: The storage capacity displayed in the device is not the same as the nominal value?
A: Computers use binary calculations (1KB = 1024 bytes, 1MB = 1024KB, 1GB = 1024MB). Additionally, internal firmware and system files occupy a small amount of memory space, leading to a difference between identified and actual usable memory.
Q: Some songs cannot be played on this device?
A: Please check if the music format is correct. Ensure the files are in supported formats (MP3/WAV).
Q: Why does this recorder react slowly?
A: Frequent use and deletion can lead to flash memory fragmentation (similar to a hard disk). If this occurs, please format the flash memory. Also, check if the MP3 files themselves are damaged.
