Figure 4: Normal Mode and Expert Mode Interfaces

  • Normal Mode: Features internal pre-made freeze-drying formulas. Simply select the appropriate formula for your food type to initiate the process.
  • Expert Mode: Allows users to add and customize freeze-dried formulas, providing greater control over the drying parameters.

Once the mode and recipe are selected, the machine will begin the freeze-drying process. Monitor the progress via the touch screen.

Completion and Shutdown

  1. When the freeze-drying process is finished, follow the instructions displayed on the screen or in the operation video to safely turn off the machine and the vacuum pump.
  2. Open the vacuum valve (labeled 'Outlet' in some diagrams) to release the air pressure from the chamber. This will allow the door to be opened safely.
  3. Once the pressure is equalized, open the acrylic door and carefully remove the trays with the freeze-dried food.

4. Maintenance

Defrosting

After several freeze-drying cycles, ice will accumulate in the cold trap. Defrosting is necessary to maintain efficiency.

  1. Initiate the defrosting process via the touch screen interface. Refer to the operation video for detailed steps.
  2. During defrosting, water will flow out of the outlet pipe. Ensure a suitable container is placed to collect this water.

Cleaning

  • Regularly clean the interior of the freeze dryer chamber and the stainless steel trays after each use. Use a soft cloth and mild, food-safe cleaning solution.
  • Ensure all surfaces are thoroughly dried before the next use.
  • Clean the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or allow water to enter electrical components.

Vacuum Pump Maintenance

  • Regularly check the oil level and condition of the vacuum pump.
  • Change the vacuum pump oil as recommended by the pump manufacturer's instructions (typically after a certain number of operating hours or if the oil appears discolored).

5. Troubleshooting

  • Machine not starting: Check power connections for both the freeze dryer and the vacuum pump. Ensure the main power switch is on.
  • Vacuum not forming: Verify that the vacuum pump is properly connected and filled with oil. Check for any leaks around the door seal or hose connections. Ensure the door is securely locked.
  • Poor freeze-drying results: Ensure food items are properly prepared and not overcrowded on trays. Verify that the selected program is appropriate for the food type. Check the cold trap temperature (should be around -60°C).
  • Excessive noise: Check the vacuum pump for proper oil level and operation. Ensure the machine is on a stable surface.
