5. Operation

The MEDALight F1S is designed for straightforward operation with a single-gear mechanism, making it user-friendly for all skill levels.

  1. Power On: Once mounted on your camera's hot shoe, ensure the flash unit is charged. There is typically a power button or a simple mechanism to activate the flash. (Based on images, it appears to have a small button on the back/side).
  2. Flash Ready: Wait for the flash to recycle. The recycling time is approximately 1-7 seconds. A small indicator light (green in some images) may signal when the flash is ready to fire.
  3. Taking a Photo: With the flash ready, simply press your camera's shutter button to take a photo. The flash will fire automatically to provide illumination.
  4. Continuous Shooting: The 1-7s recycling time allows for continuous flash shooting, depending on the power output and battery level.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the flash unit. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the flash in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Recharge the unit regularly, especially if it has been stored for an extended period.
  • Hot Shoe Contacts: Keep the hot shoe contacts clean and free from dust or debris to ensure proper connection with your camera.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Flash Not Firing

  • Check Battery: Ensure the flash unit is sufficiently charged. Connect it to a Type-C charger and allow it to charge for 1-1.5 hours.
  • Check Hot Shoe Connection: Make sure the flash is securely mounted on the camera's hot shoe. Remove and re-attach it to ensure proper contact.
  • Camera Compatibility: Confirm that your camera has a single-contact hot shoe. The flash will not work with cameras that do not have this specific type of hot shoe. Refer to your camera's manual for hot shoe specifications.
  • Camera Settings: Ensure your camera's flash settings are enabled and not set to 'flash off' or a mode that prevents external flash firing.

7.2 Inconsistent Flash Output

  • Battery Level: A low battery can lead to inconsistent flash power. Recharge the unit.
  • Recycling Time: Ensure you are allowing sufficient time (1-7 seconds) for the flash to recycle between shots. Rapid consecutive shots may result in weaker flashes.
  • Distance to Subject: The recommended flash range is within 4 meters. Beyond this distance, the flash may not provide adequate illumination.

8. User Tips

  • Verify Hot Shoe Type: Before purchasing or using, always double-check your camera's hot shoe type. The MEDALight F1S requires a single-contact hot shoe for proper function. This is a common point of confusion for users.
  • Optimal Range: For best results, use the flash within the recommended 4-meter range. This ensures adequate light coverage and consistent exposure.
  • Portrait and Close-up Photography: The compact size and light output of the F1S make it particularly well-suited for adding fill light to portraits or for close-up shots where a small, direct light source is beneficial.

9. Warranty and Support

For warranty information or technical support, please refer to the seller's policies or contact the retailer where you purchased the MEDALight F1S Mini Camera Flash Speedlite. Keep your proof of purchase for any warranty claims.
