Installation Guide

Replacing a tablet screen digitizer requires careful handling and some technical skill. It is recommended to seek professional assistance if you are not confident in performing the repair yourself.

1. Pre-Installation Checks

  • Before proceeding, ensure the new screen is compatible with your tablet. Some tablet models may use different cable codes for the same model.
  • Verify the cable code of your existing touch screen or LCD screen against the product images or specifications to ensure a match.
  • Each screen is tested for 100% functionality before shipping.

  • Carefully open the tablet casing.
  • Disconnect the old touch screen digitizer's flex cable.
  • Remove the damaged digitizer.
  • Clean the frame and remove any adhesive residue.
  • Connect the new digitizer's flex cable to the mainboard.
  • Before final assembly, perform a test (see Troubleshooting section).
  • Once confirmed working, apply adhesive and secure the new digitizer.

Operation and Functionality

The capacitive touch screen digitizer restores the touch input functionality of your tablet. Once correctly installed, the screen should respond to touch gestures as expected.

Understanding Screen Components

  • Touch Panel Digitizer: This component is responsible for touch input. If the glass is cracked or broken but the display underneath is still visible and functional, only the touch screen digitizer needs replacement.
  • LCD Display: This component is responsible for displaying images. If the image is distorted, black, or completely absent, but the touch function still works (e.g., you can hear sounds when touching), then only the LCD display needs replacement.
  • Full Parts (LCD Display with Touch Screen): If both the touch panel is broken and the LCD image is either black, liquid-damaged, or severely cracked, a complete screen assembly (LCD and digitizer) is required.

Care and Maintenance

  • Keep the screen clean using a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
  • Protect the screen from impacts and drops to prevent damage.
  • Avoid exposing the tablet to extreme temperatures or moisture.

Troubleshooting

Post-Installation Issues

  • Screen not working after installation:
    1. Ensure all flex cables are securely connected.
    2. Try resetting the tablet (a hard reset, not just a software restart).
    3. Consider updating the tablet's software/firmware.
    4. If the issue persists after a hard restart, contact customer support.
  • Distinguishing between Touch Screen and LCD damage:
Diagram showing two types of screen damage: cracked touch screen with visible display, and damaged LCD with black areas or no image.
Figure 4: Visual guide to differentiate between a damaged touch screen (display visible, touch not working) and a damaged LCD (display not visible or distorted).
    • Touch Screen Damage: If the screen can turn on and charge, other functions work (excluding the broken area), and you can see colors and apps, but touch input is unresponsive or inaccurate, then the touch screen needs replacement.
    • LCD Screen Damage: If the screen can turn on and charge, but the screen area is not complete, has black areas, white areas, no picture, or cannot show full color, then the LCD screen needs replacement.

User Tips

  • Always verify the cable code of your original screen with the replacement part to ensure full compatibility, as different production batches might have variations.
  • Perform a thorough test of the new screen's functionality (touch response, display quality) before applying any permanent adhesive or fully reassembling the tablet.
  • When unpacking, consider recording a video. This can be useful evidence if any transit damage occurs.
