4. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before installing, operating, or maintaining the fuse holder. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • High Voltage Warning: This device operates at high DC voltages (up to 1500V). Always ensure power is disconnected and verified before working on the system.
  • Qualified Personnel: Installation and maintenance should only be performed by qualified and trained electrical personnel.
  • Proper Tools: Use insulated tools appropriate for electrical work.
  • Do Not Open Under Load: Never attempt to open the fuse holder or replace a fuse while the circuit is under electrical load. This can cause arcing and severe injury.
  • Correct Fuse Rating: Always use fuses with the correct voltage and current rating for your application. Using an incorrect fuse can lead to inadequate protection or system damage.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the installation environment is dry and free from excessive dust or corrosive substances.

5.3 Wiring Connections

WARNING: Ensure all power to the circuit is disconnected and locked out before making any electrical connections.

  1. Prepare the cables: The fuse holder accepts cable sizes up to 10mm² (6-18AWG). Strip the insulation to the appropriate length for secure terminal connection.
  2. Connect the input and output DC cables to the designated terminals on the fuse holder.
  3. Tighten the fastening screws to a torque of 2.5Nm (14 In-lbs) to ensure a secure and reliable connection.
  4. Verify all connections are tight and that there are no loose strands or exposed conductors.

6. Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and wired, the ETEK DC Solar Fuse Holder operates passively to protect your PV system. It houses a gPV fuse that will interrupt the circuit in the event of an overcurrent condition.

6.1 Normal Operation

Under normal operating conditions, the fuse holder allows current to flow through the installed fuse without interruption. The thermal hole design ensures efficient heat dissipation, maintaining stable operation.

6.2 Fuse Replacement

If an overcurrent event occurs, the fuse inside the holder will blow, opening the circuit and protecting downstream components. To replace a blown fuse:

  1. Disconnect Power: Absolutely ensure that all power to the circuit containing the fuse holder is disconnected and verified before proceeding.
  2. Open the Holder: Press the handle on the fuse holder to open the fuse compartment.
  3. Remove Blown Fuse: Carefully remove the blown Φ10x85mm melt core fuse.
  4. Insert New Fuse: Insert a new Φ10x85mm gPV fuse of the correct current rating (15A, 20A, or 25A, as required by your system) into the compartment.
  5. Close the Holder: Close the fuse compartment securely until it latches.
  6. Restore Power: Once the new fuse is installed and the holder is closed, power can be safely restored to the circuit.

IMPORTANT: Always replace a fuse with one of the identical type and rating. Never bypass a fuse or use a fuse with a higher rating than specified.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of your ETEK DC Solar Fuse Holder.

  • Periodic Inspection: Annually inspect the fuse holder for any signs of physical damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
  • Terminal Tightness: Periodically check the tightness of the terminal screws. Loose connections can lead to overheating and potential failure.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the fuse holder free from dust, dirt, and moisture. Use a dry, non-abrasive cloth for cleaning. Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals.
  • Fuse Check: If a circuit protected by the fuse holder is not functioning, check the fuse as described in the "Fuse Replacement" section.

WARNING: Always disconnect power before performing any inspection or maintenance.

8. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with the fuse holder.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No power to the circuit protected by the fuse holder.Blown fuse.
  1. Disconnect all power to the circuit.
  2. Open the fuse holder and inspect the fuse.
  3. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a new Φ10x85mm gPV fuse of the correct current rating (15A, 20A, or 25A).
  4. Investigate the cause of the overcurrent (e.g., short circuit, overload) to prevent recurrence.
  5. Restore power.
Fuse holder feels excessively hot during operation.
  • Loose terminal connections.
  • Overloaded circuit (fuse not yet blown).
  • Incorrect fuse rating (too high).
  • Disconnect power and check terminal screw tightness (2.5Nm).
  • Verify the circuit load does not exceed the fuse rating.
  • Ensure the correct fuse rating is installed for the application.

9. User Tips

  • Match Fuse to Application: Always ensure the installed fuse's current rating (15A, 20A, or 25A) is appropriate for the specific DC circuit it is protecting in your PV system. Refer to your PV system's design specifications.
  • Spare Fuses: Keep spare fuses of the correct type and rating readily available for quick replacement, minimizing system downtime.
  • Application Scenarios: This fuse holder is suitable for various applications beyond just photovoltaic systems, including production workshops, electronics industries, and medical facilities, wherever DC circuit protection is needed.
