4. Setup
4.1 Physical Installation
The KP-247 printer supports both horizontal and vertical mounting configurations, offering flexibility for integration into various kiosk designs. The multi-position paper roll holder can be adjusted to two positions for optimal paper feeding from either side.

4.2 Paper Roll Installation
The printer features automatic paper loading. Follow these steps to install a new paper roll:
- Open the printer cover or access the paper roll compartment.
- Place the 58mm thermal paper roll onto the paper roll holder. Ensure the paper feeds from the bottom and the leading edge is straight.
- Gently feed the paper into the paper entry slot until the automatic feed mechanism engages.
- Close the printer cover securely.
4.3 Connecting Cables
Connect the necessary cables based on your interface requirements:
- Power Cable: Connect the 3pin Power Connector SMPS cable to the printer and the 24V DC Power Adapter.
- Data Cable: Choose between RS232 or USB interface. Connect the appropriate cable (Serial Cable for RS232 or USB Cable for USB) to the printer and your host device. The printer also supports TTL interface.
- If using a cash drawer, connect it to the dedicated cash drawer interface.

4.4 Driver Installation
Install the necessary drivers on your host system:
- Windows Driver: Available for Windows operating systems.
- Linux Driver: Available for Linux operating systems.
- OPOS Driver: For Point of Sale applications.
- Android SDK: For Android application development.
5. Operating the Printer
5.1 Powering On/Off
Connect the power adapter. The printer will power on automatically or via a power switch if present. The 'POWER' indicator will illuminate.
5.2 Status Indicators
The printer features two main indicators:
- POWER: Indicates the printer is powered on.
- ERROR: Illuminates to indicate a fault or error condition (e.g., paper out, cover open).

5.3 Printing
Once connected and drivers are installed, send print commands from your application. The printer will automatically feed paper and print at a speed of 150mm/s. The integrated auto-cutter will perform full or partial cuts as configured.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Paper Roll Replacement
When the 'paper near end' sensor is triggered or the paper runs out, replace the paper roll following the steps in Section 4.2. The printer also has a 'paper end' sensor.
6.2 Cleaning
Regular cleaning helps maintain print quality and extends the printer's lifespan.
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable before cleaning.
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the thermal print head.
- Clean the paper path and rollers to remove any paper dust or debris.
6.3 Auto Cutter Maintenance
The auto cutter is designed for durability with a life of 1,000,000 cuts or more. If issues arise with cutting, ensure no paper jams are present and the cutter area is free of debris.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Printer not powering on | No power, incorrect adapter, loose connection | Check power cable connection, ensure 24V adapter is used, verify power outlet. |
| No printing | Paper out, cover open, data cable loose, incorrect driver/settings | Check paper status (sensors), ensure cover is closed, verify data cable connection, reinstall/update drivers, check printer settings (language, baud rate). |
| Poor print quality | Dirty print head, low quality paper, incorrect print density settings | Clean the thermal print head (Section 6.2), use recommended thermal paper, adjust print density settings via software. |
| Paper jam | Improper paper loading, foreign object in paper path | Open cover, remove jammed paper carefully, ensure paper is loaded correctly. |
| Auto cutter not working | Paper jam, cutter mechanism obstructed | Clear any paper jams, inspect cutter area for obstructions. |
8. User Tips
- Verify Settings: Before initial use, confirm the printer's language and baud rate settings match your system's requirements. The default settings are English and 9600 baud rate.
- Flexible Mounting: Take advantage of the multi-position paper roll holder and the printer's design to integrate it seamlessly into your kiosk, whether in a 90° or 180° paper roll orientation.
- Monitor Paper Status: Pay attention to the 'paper near end' and 'paper taken' sensors. These provide efficient monitoring of paper status, helping to prevent interruptions during operation.
