1. Introduction

The KP-247 is a 58mm kiosk thermal printer designed for printing receipts, tickets, and bills. It is suitable for various applications requiring automated data or information output without human interaction, such as banking, transportation, retail, hospitals, restaurants, and hotels.

2. Safety Information

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the specified 24V DC power adapter. Using an incorrect power supply may damage the device.
  • Do not expose the printer to water or excessive humidity.
  • Avoid placing the printer in direct sunlight or near heat sources.
  • Keep the printer away from strong electromagnetic fields.

4. Setup

4.1 Physical Installation

The KP-247 printer supports both horizontal and vertical mounting configurations, offering flexibility for integration into various kiosk designs. The multi-position paper roll holder can be adjusted to two positions for optimal paper feeding from either side.

4.2 Paper Roll Installation

The printer features automatic paper loading. Follow these steps to install a new paper roll:

  1. Open the printer cover or access the paper roll compartment.
  2. Place the 58mm thermal paper roll onto the paper roll holder. Ensure the paper feeds from the bottom and the leading edge is straight.
  3. Gently feed the paper into the paper entry slot until the automatic feed mechanism engages.
  4. Close the printer cover securely.

4.3 Connecting Cables

Connect the necessary cables based on your interface requirements:

  • Power Cable: Connect the 3pin Power Connector SMPS cable to the printer and the 24V DC Power Adapter.
  • Data Cable: Choose between RS232 or USB interface. Connect the appropriate cable (Serial Cable for RS232 or USB Cable for USB) to the printer and your host device. The printer also supports TTL interface.
  • If using a cash drawer, connect it to the dedicated cash drawer interface.

4.4 Driver Installation

Install the necessary drivers on your host system:

  • Windows Driver: Available for Windows operating systems.
  • Linux Driver: Available for Linux operating systems.
  • OPOS Driver: For Point of Sale applications.
  • Android SDK: For Android application development.

5. Operating the Printer

5.1 Powering On/Off

Connect the power adapter. The printer will power on automatically or via a power switch if present. The 'POWER' indicator will illuminate.

5.2 Status Indicators

The printer features two main indicators:

  • POWER: Indicates the printer is powered on.
  • ERROR: Illuminates to indicate a fault or error condition (e.g., paper out, cover open).

5.3 Printing

Once connected and drivers are installed, send print commands from your application. The printer will automatically feed paper and print at a speed of 150mm/s. The integrated auto-cutter will perform full or partial cuts as configured.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Paper Roll Replacement

When the 'paper near end' sensor is triggered or the paper runs out, replace the paper roll following the steps in Section 4.2. The printer also has a 'paper end' sensor.

6.2 Cleaning

Regular cleaning helps maintain print quality and extends the printer's lifespan.

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the thermal print head.
  • Clean the paper path and rollers to remove any paper dust or debris.

6.3 Auto Cutter Maintenance

The auto cutter is designed for durability with a life of 1,000,000 cuts or more. If issues arise with cutting, ensure no paper jams are present and the cutter area is free of debris.

  • Monitor Paper Status: Pay attention to the 'paper near end' and 'paper taken' sensors. These provide efficient monitoring of paper status, helping to prevent interruptions during operation.
