2. Safety Information

Please read and understand the following safety precautions before using the DT6013 Digital Capacitance Meter:

  • Voltage Warning: Do not apply voltage to the testing ends to prevent damage to the meter.
  • Capacitor Discharge: When measuring device parameters in a circuit, ensure the circuit is disconnected from the power supply and the capacitor is fully discharged before connecting the test probes. Failure to do so can result in electric shock or damage to the meter.
  • Test Lead Connection: Always insert the red test lead into the input jacks on both sides and the black test lead into the middle input jack for all measurements.
  • Avoid Short-Circuits: Do not forcibly short-circuit the input terminals. A prolonged short-circuit can rapidly drain the battery and potentially burn out the internal circuit.
  • Range Selection: Choose the appropriate measurement range carefully to avoid misoperation and ensure accurate readings.
  • Battery: The meter requires 2 x 1.5V AA batteries.

3. Product Overview

The DT6013 is designed for ease of use and portability, featuring a clear LCD with backlight and a robust function knob.

4.3 Power On/Off

Turn the function knob from 'OFF' to any capacitance range to power on the meter. Turn it back to 'OFF' to power off.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Capacitance Testing

  1. Discharge Capacitor: Ensure the capacitor to be tested is fully discharged before connecting it to the meter.
  2. Select Range: Turn the function knob to the appropriate capacitance range.
  3. Connect Test Leads: Insert the red test lead with alligator clips into the input jacks (CX) on both sides, and the black test lead into the middle input jack (L). Connect the alligator clips to the corresponding polarity of the capacitor pins.
  4. Read Measurement: The capacitance value will be displayed on the LCD screen.

5.2 Using the Plug-in Capacitor Test Socket

For small capacitors, you can use the dedicated plug-in socket:

  1. Ensure the capacitor is discharged.
  2. Select the appropriate range.
  3. Insert the capacitor leads directly into the 'CX' plug-in test socket.
  4. Read the measurement on the display.

5.3 Special Functions

  • Backlight: Long press the "HOLD/*" key to turn on the backlight. Long press again to turn it off. The backlight will automatically turn off after about 30 seconds of no operation.
  • Data Hold: During measurement, press the "HOLD/*" key to freeze the last reading on the display. Press it again or change the measurement function gear to exit data hold mode.
  • ZERO: Use the "ZERO" button to clear any residual sensor numbers on the LCD when the meter is powered on, especially if the display shows a non-zero value below 1.6nF.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Display shows "0L": This indicates that the measurement range has been exceeded. Select a higher measurement range. If there are leading zeros before the display value, select a lower range to improve resolution.
  • Open-circuit capacitance displayed as "0" in all ranges: This suggests an open circuit.
  • Unstable readings for large capacitance: If large capacitance measurements show unstable values, it may indicate a serious leakage or breakdown in the capacitor. Confirm with other measuring tools if necessary.
  • Stray Capacitance: When using test pens or long wires, stray capacitance may be introduced. Use the ZERO function to subtract this value or use particularly short wires for more accurate measurements.
  • Abnormal Operation: If any abnormal behavior occurs, stop using the meter and contact support for repair.

7. Maintenance

  1. Do not operate the meter if the back cover is not securely fixed.
  2. Always disconnect the circuit before opening the back cover for any maintenance.
  3. Clean the meter with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild detergent. Do not use any chemical solvents.
  4. If the meter exhibits any abnormal behavior, discontinue use and seek professional repair.
