5.2 Modeling Lamp Control

The 150W modeling lamp can be adjusted from 5% to 100% intensity. Use the dedicated controls on the flash head or the X2T transmitter to set the desired brightness. The modeling lamp has three modes: OFF, PROP (proportional to flash power), and Percentage.

5.3 Flash Power Adjustment

The flash output can be precisely adjusted in 40 steps, from 1/16 to 1/1 power. The current power level is displayed on the LCD panel. Adjust using the dial or buttons on the flash head or via the X2T transmitter.

5.4 Godox 2.4G Wireless X System

The built-in 2.4G wireless X system offers advanced control:

  • Groups: Control up to 16 groups (0-9, A-F) of flashes.
  • Channels: Select from 32 channels (1-32) to avoid interference.
  • Remote Control: Use the X2T transmitter (or optional X1 TTL, XT16, FT-16 remote controls) to wirelessly trigger the flashes, adjust flash power levels, control the modeling lamp, and manage the beep function.
  • Anti-Preflash Function: Enables synchronization with cameras that utilize a one-preflash firing system, ensuring accurate flash timing.

5.5 Triggering Methods

The flash units can be triggered using several methods:

  • Sync Cord: Connect a sync cord from your camera to the flash unit's sync port.
  • Test Button: Press the 'TEST' button on the flash head for a manual test flash.
  • Slave Triggering: The flash can detect another flash firing and trigger itself (S1/S2 modes).
  • Wireless Control Port: Use the X2T transmitter for wireless triggering and control.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your lighting kit.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the flash heads and accessories. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the equipment in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity. Use the provided lamp covers to protect the flash tubes and modeling lamps.
  • Bulb Replacement: If a modeling lamp burns out, replace it with a new 150W modeling lamp of the correct voltage. Ensure the unit is unplugged and cooled down before attempting replacement.
  • Fuse Replacement: If the unit fails to power on, check the fuse. Ensure the unit is unplugged before inspecting or replacing the 5A fuse.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Godox SKII Series lighting kit, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Flash not firing:
    • Ensure the flash unit is powered on and connected to a working power outlet.
    • Check the sync cord connection or wireless trigger settings (channel, group).
    • Verify the X2T transmitter is securely mounted on the camera and powered on.
    • Check if the flash tube is damaged or needs replacement.
  • Modeling lamp not working:
    • Check if the modeling lamp is securely seated in its socket.
    • Verify the modeling lamp's power setting is not set to OFF or 0%.
    • The modeling lamp may be burnt out and require replacement.
  • Inconsistent flash output:
    • Ensure the flash has sufficient time to recycle between shots (0.1-1.0s).
    • Check for stable power supply.
    • The unit has outstanding output stability (no more than 2% shifts), so significant inconsistency may indicate a fault.
  • Wireless triggering issues:
    • Ensure the X2T transmitter and flash units are set to the same channel and group.
    • Check for obstructions between the transmitter and receiver.
    • Replace batteries in the X2T transmitter if low.

9. User Tips

While specific user reviews or Q&A were not available, general tips for studio strobe users include:

  • Test before shooting: Always perform a test flash and check your camera's histogram to ensure proper exposure before a full shoot.
  • Softbox assembly: For easier softbox assembly, lay the softbox face down on a clean surface and insert the rods into the speedring first, then gently bend them into the corner pockets.
  • Power management: Turn off the modeling lamp when not actively composing to extend its lifespan and prevent unnecessary heat buildup.
  • Wireless range: While the 2.4G system offers good range, ensure line-of-sight between the transmitter and receivers for optimal performance, especially in environments with potential interference.
