5. Setup and Installation

The KH158 detector is designed for easy plug-and-play installation.

  1. Choose a Location:
    • For Carbon Monoxide detection, place the detector at breathing height, typically 1.5 meters (5 feet) from the floor. Avoid placing it directly above or next to fuel-burning appliances.
    • For Natural Gas detection, natural gas is lighter than air, so place the detector higher on the wall, near the ceiling, but not directly in the path of ventilation.
    • Avoid areas with high humidity (e.g., directly above a sink or shower), excessive dust, grease, or direct sunlight.
    • Suitable locations include bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, basements, hotel rooms, and camping areas.
  2. Plug In: Insert the detector into a standard AC110-220V US wall outlet. Ensure the outlet is not controlled by a switch that could accidentally turn off power to the detector.
  3. The KH158 detector plugged into a wall socket, illustrating its 'Plug and Play' convenience.

  4. Preheating: Upon plugging in, the detector will undergo a 180-second preheating countdown. During this time, the display may show various readings or a countdown. The device is not fully operational until the preheating is complete.
  5. Initial Self-Test: After preheating, press the "SELF-TEST" button to confirm the alarm function. The red light should flash, and an alarm sound should be heard, indicating normal operation.

6. Operation

Once installed and preheated, the detector continuously monitors the environment.

  • Display Readings: The HD screen provides real-time data:
    • CO ppm: Current Carbon Monoxide concentration.
    • %LEL: Combustible gas concentration (as a percentage of the Lower Explosive Limit).
    • °F: Ambient temperature in Fahrenheit.
    • RH%: Relative humidity percentage.
    • Indicator Icons: Icons for CO, Gas, Power, Fault, and Alarm status.
  • Self-Test Function: Periodically press the "SELF-TEST" button to ensure the alarm is working correctly. The red light will flash, and the alarm will sound briefly.

7. Alarm Conditions and Response

The detector will activate an alarm under the following conditions:

  • Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm: The alarm will sound when the CO concentration exceeds 150ppm. The red alarm light will flash, and the device will emit an audible alarm (≥85dB).
  • Natural Gas Alarm: The alarm will sound when the natural gas concentration exceeds 2500ppm (5% LEL). The gas indicator bar icon will change color, the red alarm light will flash, and an audible alarm (≥85dB) will be emitted.

If an Alarm Sounds:

  1. Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows to ventilate the area.
  2. Do not re-enter the premises until the alarm has stopped and the area has been thoroughly ventilated.
  3. If the source of the gas leak is unknown or cannot be resolved, contact emergency services or a qualified technician.

8. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the detector with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or abrasive cleaners. Do not spray cleaning agents directly into the detector.
  • Sensor Life: The sensors have an estimated lifespan of 2 years. After this period, the detector's accuracy may degrade, and replacement is recommended.
  • Avoid Obstruction: Ensure the air inlet and outlet are not blocked by dust, debris, or furniture.

9. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Detector does not power on.No power from outlet; faulty outlet.Check the power outlet with another device. Try a different outlet.
Alarm sounds without apparent gas leak.False alarm due to steam, cooking fumes, or aerosols; sensor malfunction.Ventilate the area. Relocate the detector away from sources of steam/fumes. If persistent, contact support.
Self-test fails (no light/sound).Internal fault; power issue.Ensure proper power. If issue persists after power cycle, the unit may be faulty and require replacement.
Inaccurate temperature/humidity readings.Placement near heat/cold sources; sensor obstruction.Relocate the detector to an area with stable ambient conditions. Ensure sensors are clear.
