KUGOO M2 Pro Dashboard & Controller

KUGOO M2 Pro Electric Scooter Dashboard & Controller User Manual

Model: M2 Pro Dashboard & Controller

Brand: KUGOO

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your KUGOO M2 Pro Electric Scooter Dashboard and Motor Controller. Please read this manual thoroughly before attempting any installation or use.

Product Description

The Controller is the central electronic processing unit of your electric scooter. It regulates power delivery from the battery to the motor based on input from the throttle, brake sensors, and other components, controlling speed, acceleration, and braking regeneration.

The Dashboard serves as the monitor display, providing essential information to the rider.

2. Safety Information

⚠ ATTENTION: Always prioritize safety. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury, damage to the product, or voiding of warranty.

  • Protective equipment should be worn when operating the electric scooter.
  • Not to be used in traffic.
  • Only for domestic use.
  • Not suitable for children under 36 months.

Usage Limitations

  • Voltage & Current Rating: This controller is designed for a specific voltage (e.g., 36V, 48V) and current rating. Never connect it to a battery with a different voltage, as this can cause immediate and catastrophic failure, fire, or explosion.
  • Motor Compatibility: It must be used only with a brushless DC (BLDC) hub motor whose specifications (phase, hall sensor configuration) are compatible with the controller.
  • Thermal Limits: The controller has operational temperature limits. Avoid continuous high-load operation (e.g., climbing long, steep hills) which may cause overheating and automatic shutdown or permanent damage. Ensure it is installed in a location with adequate ventilation.
  • Moisture & Environment: This component is not waterproof unless specified with a certified IP rating. It must be protected from direct exposure to water, rain, snow, and high humidity. Do not install it in areas prone to splashing or submersion.
  • Modification Prohibited: Do not attempt to modify, reprogram ("tune"), or bypass any safety limits of the controller. Doing so voids any warranty, can damage the motor and battery, and significantly increases the risk of accident or fire.

3. Installation & Connection

3.1. Preparation (Safety First)

  1. Ensure the scooter is completely powered off and the battery is disconnected.
  2. Wait at least 5 minutes after disconnection to allow any residual current to dissipate.

3.2. Mounting the Controller

Securely mount the controller inside the scooter's deck or designated compartment using the provided screws or mounting brackets. Ensure it does not contact sharp edges, moving parts, or the battery. The metal heat sink (if present) should face an open area for airflow.

3.3. Wiring Connection

Connect all cables in the following order, ensuring each connector is fully seated and locked:

  1. Battery: Connect the main power cables from the battery to the controller's battery input terminals, observing correct polarity (RED to Positive (+), BLACK to Negative (-)). Incorrect connection will destroy the controller.
  2. Motor: Connect the three thick phase wires (usually Yellow, Green, Blue) and the thinner hall sensor wires (5-pin connector) from the motor to the corresponding ports on the controller.
  3. Throttle, Brake Levers, Display: Connect the throttle, brake sensor, and dashboard/display unit cables to their designated ports.

4. Operation

4.1. Final Check & Power-On

  1. Double-check all connections for correctness and security. Ensure no wires are pinched.
  2. Reconnect the battery.
  3. Power on the scooter. Do not apply throttle yet.
  4. Listen for any unusual sounds from the controller or motor.

4.2. Initial Test

  1. With the scooter lifted off the ground, gently apply the throttle.
  2. Observe if the motor spins smoothly and in the correct direction.
  3. If the wheel spins backward, power off and swap any two of the three motor phase wire connections on the controller. Test again.
  4. Confirm that the brake levers cut motor power as intended.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your KUGOO M2 Pro Dashboard and Controller, follow these general maintenance guidelines:

  • Regularly inspect all wiring connections for signs of wear, corrosion, or looseness.
  • Keep the controller and dashboard clean and free from dust, dirt, and moisture.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the controller to prevent overheating.
  • Avoid exposing the components to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials for cleaning.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Motor spins backward during initial test.Incorrect motor phase wire connection.Power off the scooter, swap any two of the three thick motor phase wire connections on the controller, then retest.
Scooter does not power on or respond.Incorrect battery connection, loose wiring, or incompatible voltage.Check battery polarity (RED to +, BLACK to -). Ensure all connections are secure. Verify battery voltage matches controller specifications.
Controller overheats.Continuous high-load operation, insufficient ventilation.Reduce continuous high-load activities (e.g., long steep climbs). Ensure the controller is mounted in an area with adequate airflow.

8. User Tips

  • Compatibility Check: Before purchasing or installing, always verify that the replacement controller and dashboard are fully compatible with your specific KUGOO M2 Pro model, especially regarding voltage, motor type, and display connections. If you are replacing only one component (e.g., controller), ensure it works seamlessly with your existing original display.
  • Professional Installation: If you are unsure about any step of the installation process, it is highly recommended to seek assistance from a qualified technician to avoid damage to the components or the scooter.
