5. Setup and Installation

5.1 General Wiring Diagram

Ensure power is disconnected before wiring. Connect the constant voltage DC5V-24V power supply to the controller's power input terminals (V+ and V-). Connect the SPI signal output (DATA1, CLK1, DATA2, CLK2, etc.) to your pixel RGB or white LED strip. For models with PIR sensors, connect the UP PIR sensor, DW PIR sensor, and Daylight sensor to their respective input terminals.

5.2 PIR Sensor Installation (ES-D, ES-D(WT) models only)

The PIR sensors detect motion to trigger the stair lights. For optimal performance, follow these guidelines:

  • Recommended Installation: Wall mounting.
  • Height: 1-1.5 meters from the ground.
  • Detection Scope: Approximately 1.2-1.5 meters in diameter, with a sensitivity angle of 30° (±10°).
  • Environment: Install in a dry environment. Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources (e.g., stoves, air conditioners), and areas with strong electromagnetic interference, as these can introduce false triggers.

5.3 Wiring for Color or White Light Step Mode

Connect the UP push switch, DW push switch, UP PIR sensor, DW PIR sensor, and Daylight sensor (if applicable) to the controller. The controller's SPI signal output connects to the RGB or white LED pixel strip. Ensure the power supply is correctly connected.

5.4 Connecting Multiple Controllers for Sequential Switching

For larger stair installations requiring more than one controller, multiple units can be connected to a single self-resetting push switch for sequential control. Each controller will manage its own segment of the LED strip.

7. Maintenance

  • Keep the controller and sensors clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or humidity.
  • Regularly check wiring connections for any signs of wear or looseness.
  • For WiFi models, ensure your router firmware is up to date for optimal performance.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Lights not turning on: Check power supply connection, LED strip connection, and ensure the correct light type and pixel length are set in the parameters. Verify PIR sensors (if applicable) are not obstructed.
  • Inconsistent light behavior: Check for loose wiring. Ensure the correct IC type is selected for your LED strip. For WiFi models, check WiFi signal strength and network connection.
  • PIR sensor false triggers: Re-evaluate PIR sensor placement. Ensure it's not near heat sources, direct sunlight, or areas with high air movement. Adjust daylight detection sensitivity if needed.
  • Controller unresponsive: Try resetting the controller to factory defaults by long pressing M and ► keys for 2 seconds.
  • WiFi connection issues: Ensure your WiFi network is 2.4GHz. Check the distance between the controller and your router. Verify WiFi signal strength in the installation area.

9. User Tips

  • LED Strip Compatibility: This controller is designed for pixel LED strips (e.g., WS2811, WS2812) which typically have at least three wires (V+, Data, GND). It is not compatible with simple 2-wire LED strips that do not have data input capabilities. Always verify your LED strip type before connecting.
  • Testing: Before final installation, it's recommended to test all connections and settings with a short length of LED strip to ensure proper functionality.
  • Customization: For WiFi models, explore the Tuya Smart APP's advanced features for custom dynamic scenarios and music rhythm modes to personalize your stair lighting experience.
