Instruction Manual

Brand: SHUAICHI | Model: GSM2624

1. Introduction

The SHUAICHI GSM2624 Bidirectional Power Amplifier is a TDD (Time Division Duplex) bidirectional power amplifier module designed for 2.4GHz RF signal amplification. Based on the Pueneng GSM2624 amplifier chip, this module operates within a frequency range of 2.3-2.7GHz and delivers a maximum saturation power (Psat) of 33.5dBm (2.2W). It is ideally suited for applications requiring extended range and improved signal strength, such as UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) image transmission, data transmission, and WiFi signal amplification. The module features relatively flat gain and power characteristics across its operating range.

The GSM2624 module is available in two configurations:

  • Only Module: 1x GSM2624 Bidirectional Amplifier Module
  • Module with Plate: 1x GSM2624 Bidirectional Amplifier Module + 1x Base Plate

4. Setup and Installation

Careful attention to wiring and power supply is crucial for optimal performance and to prevent damage to the module.

4.1 Component Identification

Figure 1: GSM2624 Module PCB Layout with Connection Points

Refer to Figure 1 for the layout of the connection points on the module's PCB:

  • VCC: Power supply input (5V).
  • GND: Ground connection.
  • Tx: Transmit signal input/output.
  • Rx: Receive signal input/output.
  • ANT: Antenna connection point.
  • Device: Connection point to the RC aircraft model or WiFi device.
  • VDET: Voltage detection pin (typically for monitoring, specific use may vary).

4.2 Wiring Instructions

  1. Power Connection: Connect the VCC pin to a stable 5V DC power source. Ensure the voltage does not exceed 5.5V to prevent damage. Connect the GND pin to the system's ground.
  2. Signal Connections: Connect the Tx and Rx pins to the corresponding transmit and receive signal lines of your RC aircraft model or WiFi device.
  3. Antenna Connection: Connect a suitable 2.4GHz antenna to the ANT port. Ensure the antenna is correctly matched for optimal performance.
  4. Device Connection: Connect the Device pin to the input/output of the system you intend to amplify.
  5. Module with Plate: If using the 'module with plate' variant, the base plate provides a stable mounting surface and may assist with heat dissipation. Secure the module appropriately within your system.

Important: Always double-check all connections before applying power to avoid short circuits or incorrect polarity.

5. Operation

The GSM2624 module operates as a bidirectional amplifier, meaning it amplifies signals in both transmit (TX) and receive (RX) directions. It functions in Time Division Duplex (TDD) mode, switching between TX and RX based on the signal flow.

5.1 Powering On

Once all connections are securely made and verified, apply 5V power to the VCC pin. The module will initialize and be ready for operation.

5.2 Signal Amplification

The module automatically detects the direction of the signal (transmit or receive) and applies the respective gain (15dB for both TX and RX). The switching level is approximately 0dBm, with a minimum switching time of 100ns, ensuring rapid and efficient bidirectional communication.

5.3 Applications

  • UAV Image/Data Transmission: Enhances the range and reliability of wireless communication for drones.
  • WiFi Range Extension: Boosts WiFi signals for broader coverage and stronger connections.
  • General 2.4GHz RF Systems: Improves performance in various other 2.4GHz wireless applications.

6. Care and Maintenance

  • Environmental Conditions: Store and operate the module in a dry environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
  • Cleaning: If cleaning is necessary, gently wipe the module with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Handling: Handle the module with care to avoid physical damage to the PCB or components. Avoid touching the exposed circuitry unnecessarily.
  • Heat Management: While the module is designed for efficiency, ensure adequate ventilation, especially during prolonged operation at high power. The 'module with plate' variant offers better heat dissipation.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Power/Module Not Functioning:
    • Verify that the 5V power supply is correctly connected to VCC and GND, and that the voltage is within the specified range (5V, max 5.5V).
    • Check for any loose connections or damaged wires.
  • Poor Signal Amplification/Reduced Range:
    • Ensure the antenna is securely connected to the ANT port and is suitable for 2.4GHz operation.
    • Check the input RF power to the module; it should not exceed 20dBm.
    • Verify that the Tx and Rx signal lines are correctly connected to your device.
    • Ensure there are no significant obstructions or interference sources in the operating environment.
  • Module Overheating:
    • Confirm that the supply voltage is not exceeding 5.5V.
    • Ensure adequate airflow around the module. If using the 'only module' variant, consider adding a heatsink or ensuring it's mounted on a surface that can dissipate heat.
    • Reduce the input power if possible, especially if operating continuously at maximum output.

8. User Tips

  • For best performance, use high-quality shielded cables for RF connections to minimize signal loss and interference.
  • Always test the module in a controlled environment before deploying it in critical applications like UAVs.
  • Consider the 'module with plate' variant for applications where robust mounting and improved thermal management are beneficial.
