5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

  • Press and hold the Power Button to turn the device ON or OFF.
  • Upon powering on, the device will undergo a warm-up period of approximately 30 seconds. The display will show "WAIT..." during this time.

5.2 Zero Calibration

  • For TA8408A, the device performs auto zero calibration.
  • For TA8408B/C, the device performs auto zero calibration upon startup. You can also perform manual zero calibration by pressing the "ZERO" button in a clean air environment.

5.3 Sensitivity Adjustment

  • Press the "SENS" button to cycle through sensitivity levels: Low (Lo), Medium (Mid), and High (Hi).
  • Higher sensitivity is suitable for detecting small leaks, while lower sensitivity helps to pinpoint larger leaks or avoid false alarms in environments with trace gases.

5.4 Gas Detection

  1. Ensure the device has completed its warm-up and zero calibration.
  2. Slowly move the sensor (goose neck tip) towards the suspected leak area.
  3. Observe the display and listen for the alarm. The response time is less than 2 seconds.
  4. The device will emit a sound and light alarm when gas is detected. The intensity of the alarm and the display reading will increase with higher gas concentration.

5.5 Display Interpretation (TA8408B/C)

The TA8408B/C models feature a digital analog bar display with specific alarm thresholds:

  • SENS-H: High sensitivity, alarm when concentration is β‰₯ 1.00% LEL (500 PPM).
  • SENS-L: Low sensitivity, alarm when concentration is β‰₯ 10.00% LEL (5000 PPM).
  • %LEL: Lower Explosive Limit percentage.
  • PPM: Parts Per Million, indicating a few percent of the leakage.

5.6 Unit Switching (TA8408B/C)

  • Press the "PPM/%LEL" button to switch between Parts Per Million (PPM) and Lower Explosive Limit (%LEL) units for gas concentration display.
  • Press the "C/F" button to switch between Celsius (℃) and Fahrenheit (℉) for ambient temperature display.

5.7 Alarm Sound On/Off (TA8408B/C)

  • Press the Speaker Icon button to toggle the audible alarm sound on or off. The visual alarm will remain active regardless of the sound setting.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the sensor tip is kept clean and free from obstructions.

6.2 Storage

When not in use, store the device in its cloth bag in a cool, dry place. The recommended storage temperature is -10℃ to 60℃ (14℉ to 140℉) with 20% to 80% relative humidity.

6.3 Battery Replacement (TA8408A/B)

When the low battery notice appears on the display, replace the AAA batteries as described in Section 4.1.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on: Check battery installation (TA8408A/B) or charge level (TA8408C). Ensure batteries are fresh and correctly inserted.
  • No gas detection or inconsistent readings:
    • Ensure the sensor tip is clean and unobstructed.
    • Verify the device has completed its warm-up period.
    • Perform zero calibration in a clean air environment.
    • Adjust sensitivity to a higher level if detecting small leaks.
    • Ensure the device is used within its specified operating environment.
  • Alarm sounds continuously in clean air: Perform zero calibration in a fresh air environment.

9. User Tips

  • Always perform a zero calibration in a fresh air environment before starting your detection work to ensure accurate readings.
  • When searching for small leaks, use the high sensitivity setting and move the probe slowly to allow the sensor enough time to react.
  • For pinpointing the exact source of a leak, start with high sensitivity to detect the general area, then switch to lower sensitivity to narrow down the location.
  • Keep the sensor tip clean to prevent false readings or reduced sensitivity.
  • Be aware of the auto-off function to conserve battery life.

10. Warranty and Support

For warranty information, technical support, or service inquiries, please refer to the contact information provided with your purchase documentation or contact the seller directly. Keep your purchase receipt as proof of purchase.
