3.6 Live Data Stream

Monitor real-time data from various vehicle sensors. The VD31 can display up to four PIDs (Parameter IDs) simultaneously and merge them into a single graph for easy comparison and analysis. Monitored parameters include:

  • Engine RPM
  • Intake air temperature
  • Short/Long term fuel trims
  • Misfire data
  • Throttle position
  • Engine coolant temperature
  • Oxygen sensor voltages
  • Mass air flow
  • And more.

3.7 Advanced OBD2 Functions

In addition to the core functions, the VD31 supports several other OBD2 modes:

  • View Freeze Frame: Records specific vehicle conditions at the moment an emission-related fault occurs, providing a snapshot for diagnosis.
  • O2 Sensor Test: Monitors and tests the operation of oxygen sensors to identify issues affecting fuel efficiency and emissions.
  • On-Board Monitor Test (Mode $06): Retrieves test results for emission-related powertrain components and systems that are not continuously monitored.
  • EVAP System Test: Initiates a leak test for the vehicle’s Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP).
  • Component Test Function: Allows for testing specific components or systems.
  • Vehicle Information: Retrieves important vehicle details such as Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), calibration ID, and calibration verification number.

The VDIAGTOOL VD31 is designed to help diagnose and resolve various car-related problems. Here are some common scenarios where the VD31 can assist:

An image depicting various car problems such as engine failure to start, flashing engine light, car keys not starting, lack of power uphill, increased fuel consumption, high engine temperature, and loud engine noise, all solvable with the VD31 scanner.
Figure 10: Common Car Problems Solved by VD31
  • Engine fails to start: Use the VD31 to check for engine fault codes and car battery voltage.
  • Engine light flashing: Read DTCs to identify the cause and clear the light after repairs.
  • Car keys cannot be started: Test the key fob battery level using the VD31.
  • Car lacks power going uphill: Check live data for engine performance parameters and fault codes.
  • Fuel consumption suddenly increased: Analyze live data, O2 sensor test results, and check for relevant DTCs.
  • Engine temperature too high: Monitor engine coolant temperature via live data and check for specific fault codes.
  • Loud engine noise: While the VD31 cannot directly diagnose mechanical noise, it can help rule out electronic issues by checking for engine-related fault codes.
