1. Introduction

The A-BF RX-550 is a versatile handheld infrared thermal imager designed for a wide range of applications, including medical, security, fire protection, archaeology, transportation, agriculture, and geology. It is an essential tool for electricians and maintenance technicians, enabling quick identification of problem areas through thermal analysis.

This device innovatively integrates 256×192 infrared thermal imaging with a 640×480 high-definition visible light lens. It features five professional pseudo-color modes: Rainbow, Iron Red, Cool Colors, White Hot, and Black Hot. Utilizing intelligent dual-light fusion technology, the RX-550 simultaneously presents heat distribution and visible light details, making it a powerful tool for electrical maintenance, building diagnosis, and security patrols.

3. Setup and Initial Use

3.1 Charging the Device

The RX-550 is equipped with a Type-C power interface. Connect the device to a suitable power source using a Type-C cable to charge the internal battery before first use and whenever the battery level is low.

3.2 Powering On/Off

Locate the power button on the device. Press and hold the power button to turn the thermal imager on or off.

3.3 Language Selection

Upon initial startup or through the device's menu, you can select your preferred language from Chinese, English, German, or Italian.

3.4 Connecting to WiFi for Real-time Imaging

The RX-550 supports real-time imaging on mobile devices (Android, Apple, Tablet PC, PC) via WiFi. Follow these steps to connect:

  1. On the thermal imager, open the "MENU" and navigate to the WiFi settings. Turn WiFi "On".
  2. On your mobile device or PC, search for available WiFi networks. Connect to the network named "ThermalCamera-xxxxxx", where "xxxxxx" represents the last six digits of the device's MAC address.
  3. Once connected to the device's WiFi, open a web browser on your mobile device or PC.
  4. Access the device's interface by entering the IP address "192.168.230.1" in the browser's address bar.
  5. Upon successful connection, you will be able to view real-time thermal images from the RX-550 on your connected device.

4. Operation

4.1 Basic Thermal Imaging

Point the RX-550 towards the object or area you wish to inspect. The thermal image will be displayed on the 2.8-inch TFT screen. The device automatically detects and displays temperature readings, including maximum and minimum temperatures within the field of view.

4.2 Color Palettes

The RX-550 offers five distinct color palettes to visualize thermal data. You can switch between these palettes through the device's menu to best suit your application and preference:

  • Rainbow: A common palette showing a full spectrum of colors for temperature variations.
  • Iron Red: Highlights hotter areas in red/yellow and cooler areas in darker shades.
  • Cool Colors: Emphasizes cooler temperatures with blue and purple tones.
  • White Hot: Displays hotter objects as white and cooler objects as black.
  • Black Hot: Displays hotter objects as black and cooler objects as white.

4.3 Photo and Video Recording

The device supports taking photos and recording videos. Use the dedicated buttons or menu options to capture thermal images or video footage for later analysis. The built-in 4G storage capacity allows for ample storage of your recordings.

4.4 PC Software Analysis

For in-depth analysis, connect the RX-550 to a PC. The device comes with software analysis functions that allow you to review, analyze, and generate reports from your captured thermal data. This is particularly useful for detailed diagnostics and documentation.

4.5 Temperature Alarms and Spot Tracking

Utilize the high/low temperature alarm feature to be notified when temperatures exceed or fall below predefined thresholds. The center, hot, and cold spot tracking functions help you quickly identify critical temperature points within the thermal image.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the device, especially the lens and screen, with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the thermal imager in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Charge the device regularly, even if not in use for extended periods.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Device not powering on: Ensure the internal battery is charged. Connect to a power source and try again.
  • Unclear thermal image: Check if the lens is clean. Ensure the object is within the device's temperature range. While the device is focus-free, extreme close-ups or distances might affect clarity.
  • WiFi connection issues: Double-check the WiFi name (SSID) and the IP address (192.168.230.1). Ensure no other devices are interfering with the connection.
  • Inaccurate temperature readings: Verify the emissivity setting is appropriate for the material being measured. Refer to the specifications for the device's accuracy range.
