4. Setup

4.1 Auto-Bridge Technology for Easy Setup

The O1-5G supports auto-bridge technology, allowing CPE or basestation units to connect to each other automatically after being powered on. This feature is particularly useful for users without extensive network knowledge, especially for CCTV surveillance transmission applications.

4.2 Initial Pairing (1-to-1)

Follow these steps for initial 1-to-1 pairing:

  1. Place two CPE units, both in their factory default state, next to each other.
  2. Power on both CPE units.
  3. Within 1 minute, the two devices will automatically bridge.
  4. Once successfully bridged, the DHCP servers of both devices will automatically shut down.
  5. The signal lights (LED1, LED2) on the AP end will be steadily lit, indicating an IP address of 192.168.2.1.
  6. The signal lights (LED1, LED2) on the client end will flash, indicating an IP address of 192.168.2.2.

4.3 Multi-Device Pairing (1-to-Many)

To pair additional CPE units to an existing AP:

  1. Within 30 minutes of a successful 1-to-1 pairing, power on any remaining CPE units (in factory default state) near the AP unit.
  2. When the LED1, LED2, and LED3 lights on the newly added CPE units are flashing, it indicates successful 1-to-many pairing.
  3. At this point, LED1, LED2, and LED3 on the client devices will flash, and their IP addresses will all be 192.168.2.2.

4.4 Power Supply Options

The O1-5G supports flexible power supply methods for easier installation and deployment:

  • 9V-13V DC Direct Power Supply: Suitable for short-distance installations, such as with solar DC power.
  • Passive PoE Network Cable Power Supply: Ideal for long-distance deployments, allowing power and data transmission over a single Ethernet cable up to 60 meters.

5. Operating Modes

The Tenda O1-5G supports various operating modes to suit different network requirements:

  • AP Mode (Access Point): Functions as a central hub for wireless clients to connect.
  • Station Mode (Client): Connects to an existing AP to extend the wireless network.
  • WISP Mode: Acts as a wireless client to an ISP and shares the internet connection via its Ethernet port.

5.1 Point-to-Point (PtP) Connection for CCTV Transmission

One CPE unit works in AP mode and another in Station mode to create a long-distance wireless connection for video surveillance systems.

5.2 Point-to-Point (PtP) Connection for Internet Sharing

Utilize one CPE in AP mode and another in Station mode to share internet connectivity between buildings or neighbors over a long wireless link.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Pairing Failure

If 1-to-1 automatic pairing fails, please restore both devices to factory settings and try again.

Factory Reset Method: While the Power LED is steadily lit, press and hold the Reset button for 8 seconds, then release. When all indicator lights turn on and then off, the CPE has successfully restored factory settings.

7.2 Signal Strength Indication

The signal lights (LED1, LED2) provide a quick visual indication of the connection status and signal strength:

  • LED1 lights up: Received signal strength -80dBm (default setting).
  • LED2 lights up: Received signal strength -70dBm (default setting).
  • LED light is on: The bridge works on the video recorder side.
  • LED lights are flashing: The bridge works on the camera side.
  • LED lights off: The bridge is not connected, received signal strength is less than -80dBm, or the direction needs to be adjusted.

8. User Tips

Based on user feedback, here are some helpful tips for optimal performance:

  • For best long-range performance, ensure a clear line of sight between the two CPE units. Obstructions can significantly reduce signal strength and transmission distance.
  • When installing outdoors, securely mount the units to prevent movement due to wind, which can affect alignment and signal stability.
  • Regularly check the signal strength indicators (LEDs) to ensure a strong and stable connection, especially after severe weather conditions.

9. Maintenance

The Tenda O1-5G is designed for outdoor use with an IP65 waterproof enclosure and 6kV lightning protection, allowing it to operate reliably in various weather conditions including sunshine, rainfall, wind, snow, and extreme temperatures (-30°C to 55°C).

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the CPE units to remove dust, dirt, or debris that may accumulate and affect performance or heat dissipation. Use a soft, dry cloth.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the official Tenda website for any available firmware updates. Keeping the firmware updated ensures optimal performance, security, and access to new features.
  • Environmental Considerations: While robust, avoid placing the units in locations prone to direct, prolonged exposure to corrosive substances or extreme physical impact.
