The Artfone CS181, CS182, and CS188 are user-friendly mobile phones designed specifically for the elderly. They feature large buttons, a clear display, loud voice, and essential functions like an SOS button and a built-in torch. This manual will guide you through the setup, operation, and maintenance of your new phone.

4. Setup Guide

4.1. Installing the Battery

  1. Gently remove the back cover of the phone.
  2. Insert the battery into the battery compartment, ensuring the gold contacts align with the phone's terminals.
  3. Replace the back cover until it clicks securely into place.

4.2. Installing SIM Cards

Your Artfone phone supports Dual SIM cards.

  1. With the back cover and battery removed, locate the SIM card slots.
  2. Carefully insert your SIM cards into the designated slots. Ensure they are correctly oriented as indicated by the diagrams on the phone.
  3. Reinstall the battery and back cover.

4.3. Installing a Memory Card (Optional)

The phone supports a micro SD card up to 32GB for additional storage.

  1. With the back cover and battery removed, locate the memory card slot.
  2. Insert the micro SD card into the slot until it locks into place.
  3. Reinstall the battery and back cover.

4.4. Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge your phone.

  • Using the Charging Cradle (CS182, CS188): Place the phone firmly into the charging cradle. Ensure the charging contacts on the phone align with those on the cradle. Connect the USB Type-C cable to the cradle and the adapter to a power outlet.
  • Direct Charging (CS181, all models): Connect the USB Type-C cable directly to the phone's charging port and the adapter to a power outlet.

The battery indicator on the screen will show charging status. A full charge typically takes a few hours.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off

  • Power On: Press and hold the red 'End Call' button (usually marked with a power symbol) until the screen lights up.
  • Power Off: Press and hold the red 'End Call' button until the power off options appear, then select 'Power Off'.

5.2. Making and Receiving Calls

  • Making a Call: Dial the number using the large keypad and press the green 'Call' button.
  • Receiving a Call: Press the green 'Call' button to answer an incoming call.
  • Ending a Call: Press the red 'End Call' button.

5.3. Sending and Receiving Messages

Navigate to the 'Messages' menu option to compose new messages or read received ones. Use the keypad to type text.

5.4. SOS Emergency Function

The SOS button on the back of the phone is for emergencies. It can be configured to call and send messages to up to 5 pre-set family numbers.

  1. Setting up SOS Numbers: Go to 'Settings' -> 'SOS Setting' in the phone menu to add emergency contacts.
  2. Activating SOS: In an emergency, press and hold the SOS button on the back of the phone for a few seconds. The phone will automatically call the pre-set numbers in sequence until one answers, and send an emergency SMS.

5.5. Flashlight

Your phone includes a built-in torch for convenience.

  • Activating/Deactivating: Use the dedicated side button or navigate through the menu to turn the flashlight on or off.

5.6. FM Radio

Access the FM radio feature from the main menu. You may need to connect earphones (not always included) to act as an antenna for optimal reception.

5.7. Speed Dial

Assign frequently called numbers to the numeric keys (1-9, *, #) for quick dialing. Refer to the phone's 'Phonebook' or 'Settings' menu for speed dial configuration.

5.8. User Interface Overview

The phone features a simple, user-friendly interface with clear icons and large text.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the phone's screen and body. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid exposing the phone to extreme temperatures. Do not leave the phone charging for excessively long periods after it's fully charged.
  • Storage: If storing the phone for an extended period, ensure the battery is partially charged (around 50%) and store it in a cool, dry place.
  • Durability: The phone features a tough design and strong LCD lens to reduce damage from drops. However, handle with care to prevent unnecessary impact.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Solution
Phone does not power on Ensure the battery is correctly installed and charged. Try charging the phone for at least 30 minutes.
Cannot make or receive calls Check if SIM cards are correctly inserted and activated. Ensure you have network signal.
No sound or low volume Adjust the volume using the side buttons. Ensure the speaker is not blocked.
SOS function not working Verify that emergency numbers are correctly set up in the SOS settings. Ensure the phone has network signal.
Battery drains quickly Reduce screen brightness. Close unused applications. Ensure the battery is not old or damaged.

  • Voice Number Playback: Utilize the 'Voice Number In English' feature for clear voice playback of dialed numbers, making it easier to confirm inputs.
