5. Installation Guide
Before starting, ensure your system is powered off and unplugged. Refer to your motherboard manual for specific CPU socket details.
5.1 Prepare the CPU and Motherboard
- Clean the CPU surface thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol to remove any old thermal paste.
- Apply a small amount of the included TF7 thermal grease to the center of the CPU's integrated heat spreader (IHS).
5.2 Install Radiator and Fans
- Mount the radiator to an available fan mount in your PC case (e.g., top, front, or rear). Ensure proper airflow direction. The fans are pre-installed.
- Secure the radiator using the appropriate screws.
5.3 Install Pump/Cold Plate
The FW 240 uses the SS2 buckle system for secure mounting.
- For Intel Sockets (LGA1700, LGA115X, LGA1200, LGA2011, LGA2066):
a. Attach the correct Intel backplate (if required for your socket) to the rear of the motherboard.
b. Install the appropriate Intel mounting standoffs onto the motherboard.
c. Place the pump/cold plate onto the CPU, aligning the mounting holes.
d. Secure the pump/cold plate with the Intel mounting screws. - For AMD Sockets (AM5, AM4):
a. Ensure the original AMD backplate is in place on the motherboard.
b. Install the appropriate AMD mounting standoffs onto the motherboard.
c. Place the pump/cold plate onto the CPU, aligning the mounting holes.
d. Secure the pump/cold plate with the AMD mounting screws. - The pump head is magnetically rotatable. Adjust its orientation after installation to ensure the LCD display is upright and readable.
5.4 Connect Cables
- Connect the 4-pin PWM fan cables from the radiator fans to your motherboard's CPU_FAN or SYS_FAN headers.
- Connect the 4-pin PWM pump cable to your motherboard's AIO_PUMP or CPU_OPT header.
- Connect the 3-pin ARGB cable from the fans and pump to your motherboard's +5V ARGB header.
- Connect the USB cable from the pump head to an available internal USB 2.0 header on your motherboard. This powers the LCD screen and enables software control.

6. Operation
6.1 Initial Power On
After installation, power on your PC. The fans and pump should start, and the ARGB lighting will illuminate. The LCD display on the pump head will power on and show default system information.
6.2 Software Control (TRCC)
To fully utilize the customization features of your FW 240, download and install the Thermalright TRCC water-cooled LCD screen control software from the official Thermalright website. This software allows you to:
- Monitor various system parameters (CPU temperature, frequency, GPU temperature, etc.).
- Customize the display content and layout on the 2.4-inch LCD screen.
- Upload personalized JPG, PNG, or GIF images as backgrounds or animations.
- Adjust ARGB lighting effects and colors for the fans and pump.
- Save and switch between different display themes (M1-M6 corresponding to system states).

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal performance and longevity of your liquid cooler.
- Dust Cleaning: Periodically clean the radiator fins and fan blades with compressed air to remove dust buildup. Ensure fans are not spinning during cleaning.
- Cable Management: Use the provided water pipe buckles to keep tubing and cables tidy, preventing interference with other components or airflow.
- Liquid Check: While AIO coolers are sealed, occasionally inspect the tubing and connections for any signs of leaks or damage.
- Thermal Paste: If you ever remove the cold plate from the CPU, clean off the old thermal paste and apply a fresh layer before reinstallation.
8. Troubleshooting
- No Power to Fans/Pump/RGB:
- Check all 4-pin PWM and 3-pin ARGB cable connections to the motherboard.
- Ensure the motherboard headers are correctly configured in BIOS/UEFI. - LCD Display Not Working:
- Verify the internal USB 2.0 cable from the pump head is securely connected to the motherboard.
- Ensure the TRCC software is installed and running correctly.
- Check if the USB header is enabled in BIOS/UEFI. - High CPU Temperatures:
- Confirm the cold plate is making proper contact with the CPU. Re-seat if necessary, ensuring even pressure.
- Check if thermal paste was applied correctly.
- Ensure fans are spinning and radiator fins are clear of dust.
- Verify pump is running (listen for a faint hum or check software monitoring). - RGB Lighting Issues:
- Ensure the 3-pin ARGB cable is connected to a +5V ARGB header, not a +12V RGB header (which can damage the LEDs).
- Use the TRCC software or your motherboard's RGB software to control the lighting.
9. User Tips
- LCD Power: The LCD screen is powered via the internal USB 2.0 header connection to your motherboard. Ensure this connection is secure for the display to function.
- Software Customization: Take advantage of the TRCC software to personalize your cooler's display. You can upload custom GIFs or images to match your system's theme or display crucial system stats.
- Pump Head Orientation: The magnetically rotatable pump head allows you to adjust the LCD's orientation without removing the cooler. This is useful if your installation requires the pump to be mounted in a specific way.
