3. How The System Works

The AOSU video doorbell system consists of two main parts: the video doorbell installed at your door and the Wi-Fi HomeBase located inside your house.

  • The video doorbell detects motion at your porch and allows you to answer the door remotely.
  • The Wi-Fi HomeBase stores video clips on its built-in storage, providing local recording without monthly fees.
  • When someone rings the doorbell, people in the house will be notified via the HomeBase and through the mobile app.

5. Video Doorbell Installation

Determining The Power Option

The AOSU Video Doorbell offers two power options: Battery Powered or Doorbell Wire Powered.

Option 1 - Battery Powered Installation

This option is suitable if you do not have existing doorbell wiring or prefer a wireless setup. The doorbell uses a built-in rechargeable battery.

  1. Find a Mounting Spot:
    • Take the video doorbell to your front door and check the live view on the app to find a location with the desired field of view.
    • Consider reusing existing holes if available.
    • If drilling new holes, the recommended mounting height is 48 inches (1.2 meters) from the ground.
    • If placing near a side wall, ensure the wall does not appear in the field of view to prevent IR light reflection and blurry night vision.
    • Use the 15° mounting wedge (optional) for an angled view if needed.
    • Place the Screw Hole Positioning Card against the wall to mark the position.
  2. Mounting The Bracket:
    • If mounting on a wooden surface, you do not need to pre-drill pilot holes. Use the provided screws to secure the Mounting Bracket.
    • For hard surfaces (brick, concrete, stucco), drill two holes with a 15/64" (6mm) drill bit, insert the provided anchors, and then secure the Mounting Bracket with long screws.

  3. Mounting the Doorbell:
    • Align the doorbell on top of the mounted bracket and snap it onto the bottom.
    • Press it down until it clicks into place.

Option 2 - Doorbell Wire Powered Installation

This option uses existing doorbell wiring for continuous power, eliminating the need for battery charging.

  1. Verify Doorbell Wires are Working:
    • Ring your existing doorbell to check if it's functional. If not, the wires may be defective.
    • Shut off power at the circuit breaker before proceeding. Verify by turning lights on/off in your home.

Note: Always be careful when handling electricity wiring. If you are not comfortable, consult a qualified electrician.

  2. Detach the Existing Doorbell Button:
    • Remove the existing doorbell button using a Phillips-Head screwdriver.
    • Carefully pull out the two wires. Straighten the wire ends if necessary.
  3. Find a Mounting Spot:
    • Determine the mounting position, considering existing holes and the recommended height of 48 inches (1.2 meters) from the ground.
    • Use the 15° mounting wedge (optional) for an angled view.
    • Place the Screw Hole Positioning Card against the wall to mark the position.
  4. Mount the Bracket:
    • Follow the same bracket mounting instructions as for the battery-powered option.
  5. Connect the Doorbell Wires to the Doorbell:
    • Connect the existing doorbell wires to the terminals at the back of the AOSU doorbell. Tighten the terminal screws. Wires can connect to any terminal.
    • To prevent short-circuits, ensure wires are not touching each other.
    • If wires are too short, use the provided extension wires and wire nuts. Use electrical tape if space is limited.

  6. Mount the Doorbell on the Bracket:
    • Align the doorbell on top of the mounted bracket and snap it onto the bottom.
  7. Restore Power:
    • Switch the master circuit breaker back to ON.

6. Detaching and Recharging the Doorbell

Detaching the Doorbell

If you need to detach the doorbell (e.g., for charging if battery-powered):

  1. Use the provided doorbell detaching pin.
  2. Press and hold the hole on the bottom of the doorbell with the pin.
  3. Lift the bottom of the doorbell to take it off the mounting bracket.

Recharge the Doorbell

When the doorbell battery level is low:

  1. Connect a USB-C charging cable to the USB-C port on the doorbell.
  2. Connect the other end to a 5V/1A or 5V/2A adapter.
  3. The blue light will flash during charging and turn solid blue when fully charged.
