2.5 Safety Warnings
- Safe Environment: Always perform automotive testing in a safe environment.
- Eye Protection: Wear safety eye protection that meets ANSI standards.
- Avoid Hazards: Keep clothing, hair, hands, tools, and test equipment away from all moving or hot engine parts.
- Ventilation: Operate the vehicle in a well-ventilated work area to avoid inhaling poisonous exhaust gases.
- Transmission and Brakes: Put the transmission in PARK (for automatic) or NEUTRAL (for manual) and engage the parking brake.
- Wheel Blocks: Place blocks in front of the drive wheels and never leave the vehicle unattended while testing.
- Ignition System Caution: Be extra cautious around the ignition coil, distributor cap, ignition wires, and spark plugs due to hazardous voltages.

4. Getting Started
4.1 Power Sources
The XTOOL D6S Diagnostic Tool can be powered by:
- Internal Battery Pack: Provides about 3.5 hours of continuous operation when fully charged. Charges when connected to AC power supply.
- AC Power Supply: Connect to a standard AC outlet using the provided AC power supply.
- 12-Volt Vehicle Power: Connect to the vehicle's OBDII port using the OBDII cable.
4.2 Turning On/Off
- Turning On: Press and hold the power button (top right) for approximately five seconds. If the internal battery is completely drained, charge it for more than 6 hours before turning it on.
- Turning Off: Press and hold the power button for more than three seconds. The tool will automatically power off.
- Emergency Shutdown: If the tool is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least five seconds. This should only be used in emergencies.
❗ NOTE: Forcing a shutdown during communication with the vehicle's ECM may cause issues. Always terminate vehicle communications before powering off.
4.3 Product Activation
- Select Wi-Fi: Choose an available Wi-Fi network.
- Register/Login: For first-time users, the system will guide you to enter an email and set a password. Click "Register" or "Login" if you already have an account.
- Start to Use: Click "Start to use" to enter the diagnostic system.
4.3.1 Verification Code (Password Reset)
If you forget your password:
- Go to "More" > "Profile" > "Account Information" > "New password".
- Ensure stable network, click "Send" to receive a four-digit verification code via email.
- Enter the code and click "Next".
- Enter and confirm your new password.
4.3.2 Delete Activation Information
To log in with a different account, go to "More" > "Profile" > "Account Information" > "Exit current account" and confirm.
5. Operation
5.1 Vehicle Connection

To establish communication with the vehicle:
- Turn on the tablet.
- Connect the vehicle and tablet using the main test cable (VGA to OBDII-16).
- Turn on the vehicle's ignition switch.
❗ NOTE: If the OBD port is hard to reach, an OBD extension cable can be purchased.
5.2 Diagnose Vehicles
The vehicle identification process is menu-driven. Follow screen prompts to enter required information.
- Identify a Vehicle: Options include VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), Region, Manufacturer and Model, or other specific criteria.
- Auto Scan: Automatically detects and decodes the VIN, then scans all available electronic control modules for diagnostics.
❗ NOTE: If Auto Scan fails, try Manual Selection by entering the vehicle's region and manufacturer. Auto Identification may not be compatible with all vehicles.
- Manual Input: If automatic scan fails, manually input the VIN.
- Diagnosis Menu: Click the "Diagnosis" icon to access the diagnostic menu, including Automatic Detection and System Selection.
5.3 Diagnostics Functions
Once the vehicle is identified, the tool can retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), PID data, freeze frame data, and ECU information.
- Read Codes: Displays current emission-related DTCs (Stored, Pending, Permanent).

- Clear Codes: Erases DTC records and other stored information from the ECM.

❗ NOTE: Clearing codes typically erases freeze frame data. If the underlying issue is not resolved, fault codes will reappear.
- PID Data (Live Data): Displays real-time sensor data. View individual PID data in graphing, custom PID data up to 4 sensors in a list, individual graphing, and merged graphing.

- Freeze Frame: Provides a snapshot of critical parameter values when a DTC is set.
- I/M Readiness (Smog Check): Checks the readiness of the monitoring system.
- O2S Monitoring Test: Checks the integrity of oxygen sensors.
- On-Board Monitor Test: Views results of On-Board Monitor tests.
- Component Test: Enables bidirectional control of the ECM for testing components.
- Read ECU Information: Displays ECU names and supported protocols.
- Exit Diagnostic Program: Exiting all diagnostic programs returns to the main diagnostic screen.
❗ NOTE: Damage to the vehicle's ECM may occur if communication is disrupted. Always exit all tests before disconnecting the main cable or turning off the Diagnostic Tool.

The D6S offers over 30 special functions for maintenance and service tasks. Menu options may vary by vehicle.

6. Software Updates
Software updates can be performed while connected to a Wi-Fi network or using a mobile phone's hotspot. Using a mobile phone's hotspot is recommended if network restrictions are present.
- Update All Software Programs: Click "Update" at the left of the update menu.
- Update Individual Software Program: Click the download icon next to the specific program.
- Delete Software Program: To free up memory, long-press on a diagnostic software package in the Diagnostic menu, check the box, and click "Delete".

7. Maintenance
- Clean Equipment: Keep the test equipment dry, clean, and free from oil, water, or grease. Use a mild detergent on a clean cloth to clean the outside of the equipment as necessary.
- Battery Care: Ensure the internal battery is adequately charged for optimal performance and to prevent data loss during operations.
8. Troubleshooting (FAQs)
- Q: I haven't found I/M readiness in the menu.
- A: Click the "OBD-II" icon > Auto Scan/Select OBD-II Protocol > I/M Readiness.
- Q: Unable to find live sensor data (e.g., short-term/long-term fuel trim).
- A: Click the "OBD-II" icon > Auto Scan/Select OBD-II Protocol > Live Data > LTFT, STFT or similar term.
- Q: Unable to find misfire data for Ford/Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep cars.
- A: OBD-II > Auto Scan or Select OBD-II Protocol for your car > On Board Monitor Test > Select "Misfire Cylinder Data" or similar term.
- Q: Battery not charging.
- A: 1. Use the original charging cable or OBD test cable to charge for more than six hours. 2. Hold down the shutdown button for 15 seconds and observe if the device turns on normally (without charging cable connected).
- Q: Can scanner tune up car?
- A: No, the D6S Diagnostic Tool does not have the capability to tune up a car.
- Q: Device frozen.
- A: Ensure the App is updated to the latest version. If it is, reset to factory settings. If the issue persists, contact support.
- Q: Cannot update, Wi-Fi/hotspot failure.
- A: This could be due to router firewall settings or network provider restrictions. Check your router settings or contact support. Try using a mobile phone hotspot.
- Q: Why connect to the internet once a month?
- A: It's a government policy compliant requirement to report IP location and prevent illegal activities.
- Q: Auto scan/VIN not working.
- A: Not all vehicles store VIN in the ECU or are in the coverage database. Try turning on ignition (without starting engine) for auto scan, manual VIN input, or manual selection (Diagnosis > Region > Vehicle Selection > Manual Selection).
- Q: My diagnostic tool cannot connect to Wi-Fi.
- A: Check router settings (WPA2, not WPA3) and ensure it's not blocking outgoing network traffic. Try a mobile phone hotspot for registration. If using a Wi-Fi extender, try disconnecting from the main Wi-Fi and connecting to the extender. Ensure the device's time zone matches the network time zone.
- Q: "Registration failure" error.
- A: Try a mobile hotspot (recommended) or a different network to activate.
- Q: Received a used device with a lock screen password.
- A: Contact support with the device's S/N to resolve the issue.
- Q: Shall I connect my device to the Internet/ Wi-Fi all the time?
- A: No, only for registration, updates, and some advanced features like ECU Programming for specific vehicles.
- Q: Does your tools support all functions on all vehicles?
- A: No, functions vary by vehicle make, model, and configuration, even for factory scanners.

11. Warranty and Support
11.1 Limited Two-Year Warranty
Shenzhen XTOOL Technology Co., Ltd. (the Company) warrants to the original retail purchaser that this XTOOL device will be free from defects in material or workmanship for two years from the date of purchase. Defects will be repaired or replaced (with new or rebuilt parts) at the Company's option, without charge for parts or labor, upon proof of purchase.
This warranty does not cover abnormal use, accidents, mishandling, unauthorized alteration, improper installation/repair, improper storage, removed/altered serial numbers, damage from excessive temperature or environmental conditions, damage from unauthorized accessories, cosmetic defects, or damage from external causes like fire, dirt, battery leakage, or improper electrical usage.
