1. Introduction

2. Safety Information

Your safety is paramount. Please read and understand all safety instructions before using the helmet.

  • This helmet is certified to NTA-8776, CE, and CPSC standards, offering protection against higher impact speeds up to 28mph and covering a larger part of the head compared to standard bicycle helmets.
  • Always ensure the helmet is properly fitted and the chin strap is securely fastened before riding.
  • The automatic brake lights and turn signals are designed to enhance visibility but should not replace standard hand signals or careful riding practices.
  • The light control function automatically adjusts to ambient light, but always ensure your lights are functioning correctly before riding, especially in low-light conditions.
  • Do not modify the helmet in any way, as this may compromise its protective capabilities.

5. Setup Instructions

5.1. Fitting the Helmet

  1. Place the helmet on your head, ensuring it sits level and covers your forehead.
  2. Adjust the rear size adjuster dial (Figure 1) until the helmet feels snug and comfortable, without being too tight. The helmet should not move freely when you shake your head.
  3. Fasten the quick-release chin strap (Figure 1). Adjust the straps so they form a 'V' shape under your ears and the buckle sits comfortably under your chin. Ensure there is enough room for one finger between the strap and your chin.

5.2. Attaching/Detaching the Visor

The helmet comes with a detachable black visor. To attach or detach:

  1. Align the visor's attachment points with the corresponding slots on the helmet (Figure 1, Figure 4).
  2. Gently push until it clicks into place.
  3. To detach, apply gentle outward pressure on the attachment points and pull the visor away from the helmet.

5.3. Charging (for LED lights and Bluetooth)

The helmet's smart features are powered by an internal battery. Connect the helmet to a standard USB charger using the provided charging cable. An indicator light will show charging status (e.g., red for charging, green for fully charged).

5.4. Bluetooth Pairing (Optional, for Bluetooth models)

  1. Ensure your helmet is charged.
  2. Turn on the helmet's power (usually by pressing and holding the main power button).
  3. Activate Bluetooth on your mobile phone or other device.
  4. Search for available devices and select the ILM helmet (e.g., "ILM Helmet E3-12LS").
  5. Once paired, you can play music or answer calls through the helmet's integrated speakers and microphone.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Powering On/Off and Light Control

The helmet features intelligent light control and manual light modes:

  • Automatic Light Control: After the main board is switched on, the front and rear lights will automatically light up at night or in similar low-light situations. They will not light up in the daytime.
  • Manual Light Modes:
    1. First Press: The front light is constantly on, and the rear light is flashing.
    2. Second Press: The front light remains on, and the rear light cycles through three modes: constant light, marquee, and flashing.
    3. Third Press: The front light remains on, and the rear light will flash.

6.2. Automatic Brake Lights

When emergency braking occurs, the rear lights will automatically increase to 100% brightness to warn vehicles approaching from behind. This feature is active when the helmet is powered on.

6.3. Turn Signals

The helmet is equipped with tilt-activated turn signals:

  • If your head is tilted to the left by more than 15 degrees, the left turn signal will remain on for 10 seconds.
  • If your head is tilted to the right by more than 15 degrees, the right turn signal will remain on for 10 seconds.

Note: Turn signals do not work in daytime conditions.

6.4. Bluetooth Operation (Optional)

For models with Bluetooth capability:

  • Music Playback: Once paired with your device, music will stream directly to the helmet's speakers. Use your device to control playback (play/pause, skip tracks).
  • Answering Calls: Incoming calls can be answered via a button on the helmet (refer to specific model instructions for button location) or directly from your paired phone. The integrated microphone allows for hands-free communication.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Cleaning the Helmet Shell

  • Use a soft cloth dampened with mild soap and water to clean the exterior PC shell.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the helmet's finish and materials.
  • Allow the helmet to air dry completely before storage or next use.

7.2. Visor Care

  • Clean the visor with a soft, lint-free cloth and clean water. For stubborn dirt, use a specialized visor cleaner.
  • Do not use paper towels or harsh chemicals, which can scratch or damage the visor's coating.
  • Store the helmet in a way that protects the visor from scratches.

7.3. Removable and Washable Padding

  • The internal padding can be removed for cleaning (Figure 6).
  • Hand wash the padding with mild soap and water.
  • Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before reinserting into the helmet.

7.4. Battery Care

  • Charge the helmet regularly, even if not in frequent use, to maintain battery health.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures during charging and storage.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1. Lights Not Working

  • Check Battery: Ensure the helmet is sufficiently charged.
  • Ambient Light: Remember that the automatic light control function will not activate lights in bright daytime conditions. Try testing in a darker environment.
  • Power Button: Ensure the main power button for the lights is switched on.

8.2. Bluetooth Connectivity Issues (for Bluetooth models)

  • Helmet Power: Ensure the helmet is powered on and Bluetooth is active.
  • Device Bluetooth: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone/device.
  • Proximity: Keep your device close to the helmet during pairing.
  • Re-pair: Try unpairing and re-pairing the helmet with your device.

8.3. Brake/Turn Signals Not Activating

  • Battery Level: Low battery might affect sensor functionality. Charge the helmet.
  • Tilt Angle: Ensure you are tilting your head sufficiently (more than 15 degrees) for turn signals to activate.
  • Daytime: Turn signals do not work in daytime conditions.

9. User Tips

  • For optimal visibility, especially in urban environments, consider using the manual light modes to keep your lights on even during twilight hours.
  • Regularly check the fit of your helmet, especially after long rides or if you've adjusted your hairstyle. A snug fit is crucial for safety.
  • If you have a Bluetooth model, fully charge it before long rides to ensure continuous music and call functionality.
