4. Setup Instructions

4.1. Powering the Device

The CPE Bridge supports two power supply modes:

  • 24V PoE Power Supply: Connect the included PoE power adapter to the LAN/POE port of the CPE Bridge. This allows for remote placement of the device using a single network cable for both power and data.
  • DC 12V Power Supply: (Optional) The device can also be powered via a 12V DC adapter connected to the DC port. Note that a DC 12V power supply is not included in the package.

4.2. Initial Configuration (WEB UI Access)

To manage the bridge settings, you need to access its WEB UI page. This can be done via a wired connection from a computer or a Wi-Fi connection from a smartphone.

  1. Connect to the Bridge: Connect your computer to the bridge via a network cable (to either LAN/POE or LAN port) or connect your smartphone to the bridge's Wi-Fi network.
  2. Set a Static IP Address: Configure a static IP address for your computer's network adapter (or smartphone's Wi-Fi settings) to access the WEB UI page. For example, set the IP address to 169.254.254.20 and the Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.
  3. Access WEB UI: Open a web browser and navigate to 169.254.254.254.
  4. Login: Use the default username and password (typically admin for both).
  5. Configure Settings: Once logged in, you can enter the background operation interface to configure settings such as Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password.
  6. Change Login Password: For security, it is highly recommended to change the default login password.
  7. Restore Original IP Settings: After completing the bridge settings, remember to restore your computer's (or smartphone's) network settings to their original configuration (e.g., obtain IP address automatically) to regain internet access.

4.3. One-click Fast Pairing (for 2PCS setup)

When using two CPE Bridges for a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint connection, you can use the one-click fast pairing feature:

  1. Ensure both bridges are powered on.
  2. Simultaneously press the Dig SWR/Reset button on both bridges for approximately one second.
  3. The two devices will automatically attempt to pair. The digital display on the bridges will show matching numbers (e.g., '8' for master, '8' for slave, or '9' for master, '9' for slave) once successfully paired.

5. Operation Modes

The KuWFi N660-450M supports two primary operation modes: AP Mode and Repeater Mode. When used in pairs, they can extend Wi-Fi signals over long distances.

5.1. AP Mode (Access Point)

In AP Mode, the CPE Bridge acts as a wireless access point, broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal that other devices can connect to. This is typically used when you want to create a new Wi-Fi network or extend an existing wired network wirelessly.

5.2. Repeater Mode

In Repeater Mode, the CPE Bridge extends the coverage of an existing Wi-Fi network by receiving the signal and re-transmitting it. This is useful for eliminating Wi-Fi dead zones.

5.3. Point-to-Point (PTP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PTMP) Connections

The CPE Bridges are ideal for creating long-range wireless links. For PTP, two bridges are paired to create a direct wireless link between two locations. For PTMP, one bridge acts as a master (AP) and multiple other bridges act as slaves (clients/repeaters) to extend coverage to several locations.

6. Maintenance and Environmental Considerations

The KuWFi N660-450M is designed for outdoor use with robust features to withstand various environmental conditions.

  • IP65 Rating: The device features an IP65 outdoor waterproof, dustproof, and lightning protection design. This ensures reliable operation in harsh environments, including exposure to wind, sun, thunder, rain, snow, and frost.
  • Temperature Range: It is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 55°C and can be stored in temperatures from -40°C to 70°C.
  • Humidity: The device can withstand humidity levels from 5% to 95% (non-condensing).
  • Cleaning: Periodically inspect the device for any dirt or debris accumulation, especially around ports and vents. Clean with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and security.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1. Cannot Log In to WEB UI Page

If you are unable to access the WEB UI page (169.254.254.254) for configuration:

  • Ensure Connection: Verify that your computer or smartphone is correctly connected to the bridge (wired or Wi-Fi).
  • Static IP Configuration: Make sure you have correctly set a static IP address for your network adapter. The recommended settings are IP address 169.254.254.20 and Subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
  • Browser Check: Try using a different web browser.
  • Reset Device: If the issue persists, try performing a factory reset by long-pressing the Dig SWR/Reset button for 10-15 seconds. After reset, the device will revert to default settings, and you can try accessing the WEB UI again.
  • Restore IP Settings: Remember to restore your network adapter's IP settings to automatic after configuration to ensure normal internet access.

7.2. Network Speed Discrepancy (450Mbps vs. 100Mbps Port)

The device advertises a 450Mbps wireless link speed, but the Ethernet ports are 10/100Mbps. This means the maximum wired throughput will be limited to 100Mbps. The 450Mbps refers to the theoretical maximum wireless data rate between the CPE bridges or to compatible wireless clients, not the speed through the wired ports.

9. User Tips

  • Optimal Distance: The stated 3KM distance is under optimal laboratory conditions. Actual performance may vary due to environmental factors such as trees, walls, buildings, and other obstructions. For long distances and better signal, using two CPE bridges in a paired setup is recommended.
  • Signal Interference: Wi-Fi signals can be affected by various interferences. Consider line-of-sight and potential obstacles when planning your installation.
  • Network Speed: Be aware that while the wireless link can reach 450Mbps, the physical Ethernet ports are 10/100Mbps, which will be the limiting factor for wired connections.
  • Configuration Flexibility: The CPE Bridge offers different Wi-Fi protocols and bandwidth settings. Adjusting these can impact network speed and transmission distance, so experiment to find the best settings for your specific use case.
