5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Mounting the Nozzle

  1. Identify the mounting point on your agricultural drone or spray system. The nozzle features a secure mounting mechanism.
  2. Align the nozzle's mounting bracket with the drone arm or designated attachment area.
  3. Use the provided screws and nuts to firmly attach the nozzle. Ensure it is stable and does not wobble.
  4. Utilize the 'LOCK/UNLOCK PRESS' mechanism (refer to Figure 4) to secure the nozzle in place after mounting. Press to lock, and rotate to unlock for removal.

5.2 Water Inlet Connection

  1. Connect a soft tube to the water inlet of the nozzle. The water inlet has an outer diameter of 10.8mm.
  2. It is recommended to use a soft tube with an inner diameter of less than 9mm for a secure fit and optimal flow.
  3. Ensure the connection is tight and leak-free to prevent loss of liquid and potential damage.

5.3 Electrical Connections

The nozzle uses an integrated power and signal cable. Refer to the pin definition table below for proper wiring:

PinColorFunction
1RedPower +
2PurpleOil Pump IS
3GreenCAN-H
4BlueCAN-L
5BlackGND

Ensure correct polarity and secure connections to your drone's flight controller or power distribution board. The system supports PWM/CAN control modes.

6. Operation

6.1 Pre-Operation Checklist

  • Verify that the nozzle is securely mounted.
  • Check all water and electrical connections for tightness and integrity.
  • Ensure the liquid tank is filled with the desired spray solution.
  • Confirm the power source (12S-18S Li-Po battery) is adequately charged and connected.

6.2 Starting the Spray System

  1. Power on your drone and flight control system.
  2. Activate the spray system via your drone's remote control or ground station software, according to your flight controller's configuration for PWM or CAN control.
  3. Monitor the spray pattern and flow rate. The system provides a rated flow of 5 L/min and a maximum flow of 9 L/min, with an atomized particle size of 35-500μm.
  4. Adjust spray parameters as needed for optimal coverage and efficiency.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your Hobbywing centrifugal nozzle.

  • Cleaning: After each use, especially when spraying chemicals, flush the nozzle with clean water to prevent clogging and corrosion.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the nozzle for any signs of wear, damage, or blockages. Check the spray disc (Figure 2) for debris.
  • Seals: Ensure all O-rings and seals are intact and properly seated to maintain the IPX6 protection level. Replace if worn or damaged.
  • Storage: Store the nozzle in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1 Common Issues and Solutions

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No spray or weak sprayClogged nozzle, insufficient water supply, power issueClean the nozzle, check water pump and tank, verify power connections.
Inconsistent spray patternPartial clog, damaged spray discClean the nozzle thoroughly, inspect and replace spray disc if damaged.
No power to the nozzleLoose electrical connection, faulty ESC/motor, battery issueCheck all wiring (refer to Section 5.3), test battery voltage, consult Hobbywing support if ESC/motor is suspected.
Water leakageLoose hose connection, damaged O-ring/sealTighten hose clamps, inspect and replace O-rings/seals.

9. User Tips

  • Compatibility: Always verify the compatibility of this nozzle system with your specific drone model (e.g., Boying Paladin 4) and flight controller before purchase and installation.
  • Battery Voltage: The system is designed to operate with 12S to 18S Li-Po batteries. Ensure your battery setup falls within this range for proper function.
  • Water Tube Size: For the water inlet, using a soft tube with an inner diameter slightly smaller than 9mm (e.g., 8mm) can provide a more secure and leak-proof connection to the 10.8mm outer diameter inlet.
