1. Introduction

The CamFi CF102 is a wireless remote controller designed to enhance your DSLR photography experience. It allows you to capture and transmit photos wirelessly, use your mobile device as a live viewfinder, and control various camera settings remotely. This manual provides detailed instructions on how to set up, operate, and maintain your CamFi CF102 device.

4. Setup Guide

  1. Charge the CamFi Device: Connect the CamFi controller to a power source using the Micro USB cable to ensure it is fully charged before first use.
  2. Attach to Camera: Mount the CamFi controller onto your DSLR camera's hot shoe using the double screw hot shoe adapter.
  3. Connect to Camera: Use the Mini USB cable to connect the CamFi controller to your DSLR camera's USB port. Ensure the connection is secure.
  4. Power On: Slide the ON/OFF switch on the CamFi device to the 'ON' position. The indicator lights should illuminate.
  5. Connect to Client Device:
    • On your smartphone, tablet, or computer, go to your Wi-Fi settings.
    • Find and connect to the Wi-Fi network broadcast by the CamFi device (e.g., "CamFi_XXXX").
    • Enter the default password if prompted (refer to the Quick Start Guide for default password, usually printed on the device or packaging).
  6. Install CamFi App/Software: Download and install the official CamFi application on your mobile device (from App Store or Google Play) or the client software for your PC/Mac from the CamFi website.
  7. Launch and Connect: Open the CamFi application/software. It should automatically detect and connect to your camera via the CamFi controller.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Wireless Remote Capture & Live View

Use your tablet or smartphone as a large viewfinder. The CamFi streams a live view from your camera to your connected devices wirelessly, allowing for precise framing and focus adjustments.

5.2 Auto Transmit Photos

CamFi automatically transmits and displays photos on connected devices (mobile, PC, or Mac) as soon as they are taken. This feature significantly improves workflow efficiency. Both RAW and JPEG formats are supported. You can also configure selective transfer to save only JPEGs to your device while RAW files remain on the camera's SD card.

5.3 Smooth Live View & Remote Control

Enjoy a smooth live view feed from your camera. The CamFi app allows you to remotely control camera settings such as shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. You can also touch the screen on your client device to auto-focus, making it easy to check focus and other settings on a larger display.

5.4 Sharing & Download

Download captured photos directly to your mobile phone from your DSLR camera via CamFi. Once downloaded, you can instantly share them to your social networks.

5.5 Self-Portrait Functionality

Utilize your mobile device as a viewfinder to easily compose and capture self-portraits or group shots without needing assistance.

5.6 Printing Photos Instantly

With the CamFi Windows client software, you can print captured photos instantly as they are taken, ideal for event photography.

5.7 Download & Edit RAW Files

CamFi supports downloading original RAW format photo files. You can then use your preferred editing software on your tablet or computer to process the RAW files.

5.8 Show Photos as Taken

Display your photos on a computer screen instantly as they are captured. This allows for immediate review of your work and provides a better experience for clients during photo shoots.

5.9 Powerful Time-Lapse

While most DSLR cameras offer basic countdown shooting, CamFi provides advanced timer features. You can flexibly set shooting intervals and photo counts for sophisticated time-lapse sequences.

5.10 HDR & Focus Stacking

CamFi supports advanced photography techniques such as High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Focus Stacking, which are commonly used by professional photographers to achieve specific visual effects.

5.11 SmartView for Faster Transfers

Raw files are typically large and can take time to transfer. The SmartView feature in CamFi significantly speeds up RAW file transmission via Wi-Fi, allowing you to view a RAW file in approximately 5 seconds.

The CamFi CF102 supports a wide range of Sony, Canon, and Nikon DSLR cameras. Please refer to the lists below for specific models.

6.1 Sony Cameras

    • * The USB cable with CamFi does not match for these cameras. Please use the original USB cable with the cameras to connect with CamFi.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the CamFi device. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Care: Recharge the device regularly, even if not in use, to maintain battery health. Avoid fully discharging the battery for extended periods.
  • Storage: Store the CamFi controller in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Cable Management: Handle USB cables carefully to prevent damage to connectors.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Device Not Powering On: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the Micro USB cable to a power source and try again.
  • Cannot Connect to Wi-Fi: Double-check the Wi-Fi password. Ensure the CamFi device is powered on and within range of your client device. Try restarting both the CamFi and your client device.
  • App Not Detecting Camera: Verify that the Mini USB cable is securely connected between the CamFi and your camera. Ensure your camera is powered on and in a compatible shooting mode. Restart the CamFi app.
  • Slow Photo Transfer: Ensure there are no obstructions between the CamFi and your client device. Minimize other Wi-Fi interference. For RAW files, ensure SmartView is enabled if available.
  • Live View Issues: Check camera compatibility for live view support (refer to Section 6). Ensure a stable Wi-Fi connection.

9. User Tips

  • For critical shots, always ensure your CamFi device is fully charged to avoid interruptions.
  • When using the device for extended periods, consider carrying a portable power bank to charge the CamFi controller.
  • Experiment with the HDR and Focus Stacking features to expand your creative photography options.
  • Utilize the instant photo display feature during client shoots to get immediate feedback and streamline your workflow.
