3. Installation Guide

Before installation, ensure your computer is powered off and unplugged from the wall outlet. Refer to your PC case or radiator manual for specific mounting locations and orientations.

  1. Identify Mounting Location: Determine where you want to install the fans (e.g., front intake, rear exhaust, top exhaust, or on a radiator).
  2. Orient the Fan: Fans have an intake side and an exhaust side. Typically, the side with the fan grille/label (showing model info) is the exhaust side, pushing air out. The open side is the intake. Ensure the fan is oriented to provide the desired airflow direction for your system.
  3. Mount the Fan:
    • Align the fan with the mounting holes on your PC case or radiator.
    • Use the provided fan mounting screws to secure the fan. Do not overtighten the screws, as this can damage the fan frame or cause vibrations.
  4. Connect the Fan:
    • Locate an available 4-pin PWM fan header on your motherboard.
    • Connect the 4-pin PWM cable from the TF140S fan to the motherboard header.
    • If installing multiple fans, you may use a PWM fan splitter or hub (if provided or purchased separately) to connect them to a single motherboard header, ensuring all fans can be controlled simultaneously.
  5. Cable Management: Route the fan cables neatly to avoid interference with other components and to improve airflow within your case.

4. Operation

The Deepcool TF140S fans are PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) controlled, allowing your motherboard to dynamically adjust their speed based on system temperature. This ensures optimal cooling performance when needed and quiet operation during lighter loads.

  • Automatic Control: Once connected to a 4-pin PWM header, the fan speed will be automatically managed by your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings or operating system software (e.g., fan control utilities provided by your motherboard manufacturer).
  • Manual Control (Optional): You can typically adjust fan curves and set custom speed profiles through your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI or dedicated software to fine-tune the balance between cooling performance and noise levels.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your fans.

  • Dust Cleaning: Over time, dust can accumulate on fan blades and grilles, reducing cooling efficiency and potentially increasing noise.
    • Periodically (e.g., every 3-6 months), power off and unplug your computer.
    • Use compressed air or a soft brush to gently remove dust from the fan blades and frame. Hold the fan blades to prevent them from spinning rapidly during cleaning, which can damage the bearing.
  • Inspection: Check fan cables for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure all mounting screws are secure.

6. Troubleshooting

Fan is not spinning:
  • Ensure the fan's 4-pin PWM connector is securely plugged into a motherboard fan header.
  • Check your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure the fan header is enabled and configured correctly (e.g., not set to "disabled" or a very low RPM threshold that prevents spinning at idle).
  • Test the fan on a different fan header or with a fan tester if available, to rule out a faulty fan or motherboard header.
Fan is too loud:
  • Adjust the fan curve in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings or fan control software to reduce fan speed at lower temperatures.
  • Ensure the fan is securely mounted and not vibrating against the case or other components.
  • Clean any dust accumulation on the fan blades.
Poor cooling performance:
  • Verify that the fan is oriented correctly to provide optimal airflow (e.g., intake for fresh air, exhaust for hot air).
  • Check for obstructions to airflow inside your PC case.
  • Ensure fan speeds are adequate for your system's thermal load. Adjust fan curves if necessary.
  • Clean any dust from the fan and surrounding components.
