LEXON R2

LEXON Road Full Carbon Crankset User Manual

Model: R2

1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your LEXON Road Full Carbon Crankset. Designed for road bicycles, this superlight crankset features a 24mm Titanium Spindle and is compatible with 11S/12S systems. Some models may include an XCADEY Power Meter for advanced performance tracking.

The LEXON Road Full Carbon Crankset is engineered using Toray high modulus carbon fiber, resulting in a lightweight design (as low as 362g for 167.5mm cranksets, spider not included) and superior rigidity. The second generation of dual-channel technology enhances crank rigidity by 12%. Its highly compatible 24mm axle adapts to various frames, and the titanium axle core ensures exceptional rigidity and durability. The crankset has passed rigorous 1800N 14w crank fatigue and 5600N crank damage tests, exceeding EU standards.

RYET Chainrings, often paired with this crankset, offer an optimal balance of weight, stiffness, and strength. Constructed from ultra-light aviation grade 7075 aluminum, their 5.6mm thick structure provides a firm and strong product. They are 12% lighter and more rigid than traditional aluminum sprocket blades, featuring an optimized tooth profile for fast and accurate gear shifting.

2. Critical Safety Warnings

  • Torque Wrench is Mandatory: You MUST use a calibrated torque wrench for all bolts. Overtightening can damage carbon fiber or aluminum threads, leading to catastrophic failure.
  • Verify Compatibility:
    • Road Models: Ensure your frame's bottom bracket standard (e.g., BB86, BB30, PF30) is fully compatible with the crankset's spindle diameter (24mm or 29mm) and the corresponding bottom bracket.
    • Mountain Models: Ensure your frame's bottom bracket standard (e.g., BB92, PF30) is fully compatible with the 29mm spindle and its specific bottom bracket.
  • Use Carbon Assembly Paste: Always apply a thin layer of carbon fiber assembly paste to all carbon-on-carbon contact surfaces (e.g., spindle interface, preload cap) to prevent slippage and creaking.
  • Do Not Use Damaged Parts: Inspect the crank arms, chainrings, and all bolts for any cracks or damage before installation. Do not install if compromised.

For safety and optimal performance, professional installation by a qualified bicycle mechanic is strongly recommended.

3. Setup and Installation

This section outlines the key steps for installing your LEXON Road Full Carbon Crankset. Refer to the diagram below for visual guidance on component identification.

Installation Instruction diagram with numbered parts
Figure 2: Installation Instruction diagram. Key components include (1) None-drive side crank with spindle, (2) Preload adjuster, (3) Spider lock cup, (4) Drive side crank, (5) Crank lock cup, (6) Self-extractor cup. The effective spindle length is 93mm.

3.1 Key Installation Steps

  1. Install Bottom Bracket: Press-fit or thread the correct bottom bracket cups into your frame according to its standard.
  2. Install Crankset:
    • Insert the drive-side crank arm/spindle through the bottom bracket.
    • Attach the non-drive-side arm and hand-tighten the fixing bolt(s).
  3. Set Preload (if applicable): For systems with a preload adjuster, turn until all play is eliminated and the crank spins smoothly.
  4. Final Torque: Using a torque wrench, tighten all fixing bolts to the exact specification printed on the crank arm, following a cross pattern. Do not exceed the specified value.
  5. Install Chainrings: Secure the chainrings to the crank arm using the chainring bolts. Torque to spec (typically 10-14 N·m) in a cross pattern.

3.2 Component Details

5. Care, Inspection & Maintenance

  • Initial Check: After the first 50 km of riding, re-check the torque on all crank and chainring bolts, as settling may occur.
  • Regular Inspection: Periodically (e.g., monthly) check bolt torque and inspect crank arms and chainrings for cracks, unusual flex, or noise.
  • Cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid directing high-pressure water at bearing seals or bolt interfaces. Do not use corrosive cleaners.
  • Lubrication: Use only specified lubricant or anti-seize compound on metal threads. Never use grease on carbon contact surfaces.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your LEXON Road Full Carbon Crankset, consider the following:

  • Unusual Noises or Play: Re-check all bolt torques as per the installation instructions. Ensure proper preload adjustment if applicable. Inspect for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage on crank arms, chainrings, and spindle.
  • Shifting Issues (with RYET Chainrings): Verify that the chainrings are correctly installed and torqued. Ensure your drivetrain components (derailleurs, chain) are compatible and properly adjusted.
  • Power Meter Inaccuracy or Connectivity Problems: Check the XPOWER-S battery level. Ensure your cycling computer or smartphone app is updated and correctly paired via ANT+ or Bluetooth. Refer to the XCADEY APP for diagnostics and firmware updates.

For complex issues or if you are unsure about any repair, it is highly recommended to consult a qualified bicycle mechanic.

9. User Tips

  • Double-Check Compatibility: Before purchasing or installing, always confirm that the crankset's spindle diameter (24mm) and your bike's bottom bracket standard are fully compatible. Pay special attention to chainring compatibility with your existing crankset if not purchasing a complete unit.
  • Professional Installation: Given the precision required for carbon components and torque specifications, consider having the crankset installed by a professional bicycle mechanic to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Regular Torque Checks: As carbon and aluminum components can settle, perform initial torque checks after the first few rides (e.g., 50 km) and then periodically as part of your regular bike maintenance.
  • Power Meter Calibration: If using the XCADEY Power Meter, ensure it is regularly calibrated according to the XCADEY APP instructions for the most accurate power readings.
