1. Introduction

The Tuya TH-16 Smart Wifi Switch is a versatile device designed to integrate into your smart home system, allowing for remote and automatic control of appliances. Equipped with a high-accuracy waterproof temperature sensor, it can automatically turn devices on or off based on environmental temperature ranges. This smart switch supports timing functions and can be controlled via a mobile application, voice commands through smart assistants, or an RF433MHz remote control.

Note: The sensor included can only detect temperature. If humidity detection is required, a separate humidity sensor must be acquired.

5. Setup Guide

5.1 Pre-installation Checklist

  • Ensure your smartphone or tablet is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network with internet access.
  • Enable Bluetooth on your phone for initial device discovery.
  • Ensure you have the correct Wi-Fi password.
  • Your router must have MAC-open (not MAC-filtered).

5.2 Wiring Diagram

Connect the smart switch according to the diagram below. Ensure power is off before wiring.

5.3 App Installation and Device Pairing

  1. Download the App: Search for "Tuya Smart" or "Smart Life" in your mobile app store (App Store for iOS, Google Play for Android) or scan the QR code provided in the product packaging.
  2. Register/Login: Register a new Tuya Smart account. If you already have an account, simply log in.
  3. Reset Device:
    • If the network indicator is already blinking fast (0.5s/time), you can skip this step.
    • Power on the device.
    • Hold down the Reset button for 6 seconds until the network indicator blinks fast (0.5s/time).
  4. Add Device:
    • Open the Tuya Smart app.
    • Click the "+" icon in the top right corner.
    • Select "Auto Scan" or manually add the device. The app will automatically discover Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/Zigbee/wired devices when the corresponding permission is turned on.
    • Wait a few seconds for the device to be found, then click "Next".
    • Select your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and enter your password.
    • Name your device.
    • Once added successfully, the device will appear in your app.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 App Control

After successful pairing, you can control and monitor the smart switch via the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app.

  • Real-time Temperature Monitoring: The app displays the current temperature detected by the connected sensor.
  • Remote ON/OFF: Toggle the switch icon in the app to turn connected appliances on or off from anywhere.
  • Temperature Control Modes:
    • Auto Mode: Set a target temperature and a temperature range. The switch will automatically turn on or off connected devices (e.g., heaters or coolers) to maintain the temperature within the set range.
    • Manual Mode: Manually turn the switch on or off, overriding automatic temperature control.
  • Timing & Schedule: Set up countdowns, single-event timers, repeat timers, or loop timers to automate device operation at specific times.
  • Temperature Alerts: Set high and low temperature alarm thresholds. Your phone will receive a reminder notification if the temperature exceeds the set maximum or falls below the set minimum.

6.2 Voice Control

The smart switch is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home/Google Assistant. Once integrated, you can use voice commands to control your connected devices.

  • Example Commands:
    • "Alexa, turn on [Device Name]."
    • "Hey Google, turn off [Device Name]."
    • "Alexa, what is the temperature of [Device Name]?"

6.3 RF Remote Control (Optional)

If you have an RF433MHz learning code remote control, you can pair it with the smart switch for local control.

Note: The smart switch only supports 433MHz Learning code remotes. Rolling code and clone remotes are not supported. It is recommended to use compatible remotes from the same manufacturer.

6.3.1 Remote Control Matching

  1. Hold the RF Pairing button on the smart switch for 3 seconds until the RF Pairing indicator (blue light) is on.
  2. Then, long press the button on the remote control that you wish to match.
  3. Release the remote control button. Matching is successful when the indicator responds.

6.3.2 Clear Remote Code

  1. Long press the RF pairing button on the smart switch for 15 seconds (the RF pairing indicator will be continuously on).
  2. Release the RF pairing button until the RF pairing indicator (blue light) is off. The code is now cleared.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the device operates within the specified temperature (0ºC-40ºC) and humidity (5%-90%RH, non-condensing) ranges.
  • Sensor Care: The waterproof temperature sensor can be submerged in water for temperature measurement. Ensure the connection to the main unit remains dry.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Tuya Smart/Smart Life app for available firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and security.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Device not connecting to Wi-Fi:
    • Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz. The device does not support 5GHz Wi-Fi.
    • Verify the Wi-Fi password is correct.
    • Make sure your phone's Bluetooth is enabled during the pairing process.
    • Check if your router has MAC filtering enabled. If so, temporarily disable it or add the device's MAC address to the allowed list.
    • Try resetting the device and attempting the pairing process again.
  • Temperature readings are inaccurate:
    • Ensure the temperature sensor is properly connected to the smart switch.
    • Check for any physical damage to the sensor probe or cable.
    • Perform a temperature calibration in the app settings if available.
  • RF Remote control not working:
    • Ensure the remote control is a 433MHz learning code type.
    • Repeat the remote control matching process as described in section 6.3.1.
    • Check if the remote control has working batteries (not included with the switch).
  • App Functionality Issues:
    • Ensure your app is updated to the latest version.
    • Check your internet connection.
    • For general app issues, enter the homepage of the App and click the icon in the lower right corner of the interface to access troubleshooting options or FAQs.

9. User Tips

  • For applications requiring precise temperature control, such as aquariums or incubators, utilize the Auto Mode feature with carefully set high and low temperature alarms to prevent extreme fluctuations.
  • Leverage the 'Family Sharing' feature in the app to allow multiple household members to control the smart switch, enhancing convenience for everyone.
  • Regularly check the 'Temperature History' and 'Energy Consumption' statistics within the app to monitor trends and optimize energy usage for connected devices.
  • When setting up voice control, assign clear and memorable names to your devices in the Tuya/Smart Life app to ensure smooth interaction with Alexa or Google Home.
