3. Package Contents
Ensure all items are present in the package:
- 1 x Battery Capacity Tester Module (HW-586)
- 2 x Load Resistors (5W7Ω5J)
- 4 x Screws
- 4 x Screw Nuts
4. Setup Instructions
- Prepare the Battery: The battery to be tested must be fully charged before starting the capacity test.
- Connect the Battery: Connect the positive pole of the battery under test to the positive input terminal of the module and the negative pole to the negative input terminal. WARNING: Do not reverse the connection, as this may damage the circuit, especially when a load is connected.
- Connect the Load: Connect your external load (e.g., the provided resistors) to the positive output and negative output terminals of the module.
- Power the Tester: Supply power to the tester via its micro USB interface. Note that desktop or laptop USB ports may not provide sufficient power for the tester's operation; a dedicated USB power adapter is recommended. Once powered, the battery voltage will be displayed on the module.
5. Operating Instructions
- Start Test (Automatic Termination Voltage): To begin the test with an automatically set termination voltage, simply press the "OK" button. The tester will automatically determine a suitable termination voltage based on the battery's full charge voltage. The display will flash 3 times before the test commences.
- Start Test (Manual Termination Voltage): If you wish to manually set the termination voltage, press the "+" or "-" buttons while the battery voltage is displayed. The display will show 'P' followed by the voltage value (e.g., P1.0 for 1.0V) with a resolution of 0.1V. After setting your desired termination voltage, press the "OK" button to start the test.
- Monitor Test Progress: Once the test begins, the tester will activate the electronic switch controlling the load. The display will cycle through the discharge capacity (Ah), the current discharge current (A), and the battery voltage (V).
- Test Completion: When the battery voltage reaches the set termination voltage, the tester will automatically cut off the load control switch. The display will then show the total discharge capacity (Ah) and flash rapidly, along with a corresponding indicator. This displayed capacity is the actual discharge capacity of the battery.
- Review Results: Press the "OK" button once to stop the flashing and stabilize the capacity display.
- Prepare for Next Test: Press the "OK" button again to return the tester to its initial power-on state, allowing you to replace the battery and perform another test.
6. Secondary Calibration Operation
To perform a secondary calibration of the module:
- Enter Calibration Mode: Press and hold all three buttons simultaneously while powering on the tester. The tester will enter calibration mode, first displaying the number of calibration records.
- Voltage Calibration Step 1 (0V): The display will show "0u0A". At this point, short-circuit the positive and negative input terminals. Press the "OK" button. The display will change to "J10u".
- Voltage Calibration Step 2 (10V): Apply a standard DC voltage of 10.00V between the positive and negative input terminals. Press the "OK" button. The display will then show "J2.0A".
- Current Calibration (2A): Apply a constant DC current of 2.0A to the output negative (inflow direction) and input negative (outflow direction). Press the "OK" button to complete the calibration.
- Calibration Verification: The tester will pre-audit the calibration data. If the data is deemed reliable, four calibration numbers will be displayed in sequence, and the tester will then exit calibration mode. If the pre-audit finds the data unreliable, it will be discarded, and the tester will exit without saving the calibration.
7. Troubleshooting (Error Codes)
The module may display error codes to indicate specific issues:
- Err1: The battery voltage is higher than 15V.
- Err2: The battery voltage is lower than the set termination voltage.
- Err3: The battery cannot withstand the load discharge current, or the internal resistance of the circuit is too large.
- Err4: Excessive current (current exceeds 3.1A).
8. User Tips
- Voltage Display Accuracy: The circuit is designed with DC bias to improve voltage measurement accuracy. When no terminal is connected, a very small voltage might be displayed. This is normal and does not affect actual measurements. If you short-circuit the input terminal (ensuring it's absolutely 0V), the display will show 0.
- Load Resistor Selection: Ensure your chosen load resistors are appropriate for the battery voltage and desired discharge current to prevent overheating or damage.
- Power Supply for Tester: Use a stable and sufficient power source for the micro USB input of the tester to ensure accurate operation.
9. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and accurate performance of your HW-586 module:
- Keep the module clean and free from dust and moisture.
- Avoid exposing the module to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight.
- Handle the module with care to prevent physical damage to the components or circuit board.
- Store the module in a dry, cool place when not in use.
