4. Installation and Wiring Guide

4.1 Wiring Precautions

  1. Installation and wiring should be carried out by a certified electrician.
  2. Follow this sequence when wiring: Battery > PV Input > DC Output.
  3. To avoid short circuits and reverse polarity, ensure that the positive (+) cable is connected to the positive (+) terminal of the equipment and the negative (-) cable to the negative (-) terminal.
  4. Undersized or loose connections can cause cables or terminals to overheat. Therefore, tighten all cables to minimize transitional resistance. Use cables of appropriate size according to the current of the specific circuit.

4.2 Installation Steps

Step 1. Install the controller vertically with the ports facing downward. Secure it to the wall using screws through the four mounting holes on the body. For easier installation, it is recommended to "hang" the equipment using the two upper screws first, then add the two lower screws, and finally secure all four screws completely.

Step 2. Battery wiring: Connect the battery to the controller using cables.

NOTICE:

  • If an inverter needs to be connected, please refer to the diagram below.

Figure 4.2: Battery Wiring Diagram.

NOTICE:

  • All wiring work must be performed by professionals.
  • For safe operation and proper application, corresponding breakers must be installed on the cables connected to the controller, and ensure all connections are tight.
  • Ensure all breakers are in the OFF position before completing all wiring.
  • Connect the positive cable terminal to the positive port and the negative cable terminal to the negative port.
  • The above precautions also apply to PV ports and DC output ports.

Step 3. PV wiring: Connect the PV array to the controller using cables.

Figure 4.4: DC Output Wiring Diagram.

Step 5. Pre-start check: Refer to the wiring diagram below. If all connections are accurate and secure, close the battery and PV array breakers in sequence.

WARNING: Risk of electric shock!

  • Ensure all power sources are off before wiring, and follow appropriate inspection and operation procedures.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the optimal performance and longevity of your PowMr MPPT Solar Charge Controller and connected battery system.

  • Connection Integrity: Periodically check all wiring connections (PV, battery, load) to ensure they are tight and free from corrosion. Loose connections can lead to overheating and reduced efficiency.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the controller is installed in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperatures. The operating temperature range is -35℃ to +45℃.
  • Temperature Monitoring: The controller accurately monitors battery temperature and will automatically reduce charging power if the battery temperature exceeds 80℃ to protect the battery. Ensure proper ventilation around the battery to prevent excessive heat buildup.
  • Adaptive Charging: The controller's adaptive boost charging feature helps extend battery life by optimizing each charging cycle. No user intervention is typically required for this feature.
  • Protection Features: The controller includes multiple protection mechanisms (overcurrent, short circuit, reverse polarity, overvoltage, over-discharge, overtemperature). If any protection is triggered, identify and resolve the underlying issue before resuming operation.
  • Lithium Battery Care: If using lithium batteries, ensure they are not charged when their temperature is below 0℃, as this can cause damage.
  • Cleaning: Keep the controller's exterior clean and free from dust and debris. Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

7. Troubleshooting

The LCD display provides alert statuses and operational information that can assist in troubleshooting. For detailed troubleshooting steps and error codes, please refer to section "4.2 Troubleshooting" in the comprehensive user manual (if a PDF is available) or contact customer support.

Common Issues and General Advice:

  • No Display/Power: Check battery connections and ensure the battery has sufficient charge. Verify all breakers are closed.
  • No Charging: Check PV panel connections, ensure sufficient sunlight, and verify PV input voltage is within the specified range. Check for PV array short circuits or reverse polarity.
  • Load Not Working: Check load connections, ensure the load is not exceeding the controller's capacity, and verify load operation mode settings.
  • Overheating: Ensure adequate ventilation around the controller and battery. Check for loose or undersized wiring connections.
  • Incorrect Readings: Ensure battery type settings are correctly configured for your battery.

If you encounter persistent issues, please record any error messages or unusual behavior and contact PowMr customer support for assistance.
