2. Interconnecting Multiple Units

The CPVAN smoke detectors are pre-linked at the factory. If you need to re-interconnect or add new units:

  1. On one smoke alarm, press the middle part 4 times quickly. The green light will flash slowly, indicating it's in pairing mode.
  2. On each of the remaining smoke alarms you wish to interconnect, press the middle part twice quickly. Their green lights will also flash slowly.
  3. Wait for approximately 60 seconds until all green lights go out. This indicates successful interconnection.
  4. To test the interconnection, press the middle part of any smoke alarm once. The red light will flash and the unit will beep. All successfully interlinked units should also beep.

4. Placement Recommendations

For optimal protection, install smoke detectors in the following areas:

  • Inside every bedroom.
  • In the hallway outside each separate sleeping area.
  • On every level of your home, including the basement.
  • Near potential fire sources, such as living rooms and dining areas.
  • Avoid placing detectors directly above cooking appliances or in bathrooms where steam can cause false alarms.

Operating Instructions

Normal Operation

During normal operation, the green status light will blink extremely dimly every 300 seconds. This indicates that the detector is working correctly without causing disturbance, even during sleep.

Alarm Function

When smoke is detected, the detector will emit a loud alarm sound (>85 dB) and the red LED will flash brightly. If multiple units are interlinked, all connected alarms will activate simultaneously.

Test/Silence Button

The large central button on the detector serves as both a test button and a silence button.

  • Test: Press the button once to test the detector's functionality. The red light will flash and the unit will beep. If interlinked, all connected units should also sound an alarm.
  • Silence: During an alarm, press the button to temporarily silence the alarm. The detector will remain in a monitoring state.

Low Battery Alert

When the battery level is low (2.7 ± 0.1 V), the yellow LED will flash and the buzzer will beep once every 60 seconds. Since the battery is sealed and non-replaceable, the unit should be replaced when this alert occurs.

Maintenance

Battery Life

The CPVAN smoke detector is equipped with a sealed 3V lithium battery designed to last for 10 years, providing uninterrupted 24/7 protection. The battery is not replaceable. When the low battery alert sounds, the entire unit should be replaced.

Cleaning

Regularly clean your smoke detector to ensure optimal performance. Use a soft, slightly damp cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use harsh cleaning agents or solvents, as these can damage the unit. Avoid spraying cleaning products directly onto the detector.

Regular Testing

It is recommended to test your smoke detectors weekly or monthly to ensure they are functioning correctly. Press the test button on each unit and listen for the alarm sound.

Troubleshooting

False Alarms

  • Cause: Steam from showers, cooking fumes, or excessive dust.
  • Solution: Relocate the detector if it's too close to kitchens or bathrooms. Clean the detector regularly to remove dust buildup.

No Alarm During Test

  • Cause: Unit not powered on, low battery, or interconnection issue.
  • Solution: Ensure the ON/OFF switch is in the 'ON' position. Check for low battery alerts (yellow LED and beeping). If interlinked, verify the interconnection process was successful.

Interconnection Issues

  • Cause: Incorrect pairing steps, units out of range, or interference.
  • Solution: Ensure all units are powered on. Carefully repeat the interconnection steps as described in the 'Setup' section. Ensure units are within the effective operating range (indoor range may be less than 100m due to walls and obstacles).

Disconnecting Units

If you need to disconnect a unit from the interlinked network:

  1. Press the middle part of the specific smoke alarm you wish to disconnect twice quickly.
  2. The green lights on the unit will flash for 60 seconds, then go out. A red light will stay on for 2 seconds.
  3. To confirm disconnection, press the test button on the unit. Only that unit should beep, and other interlinked units should not react.

User Tips

  • Ensure all units are powered on before attempting to interconnect them for the first time.
  • Regularly test your smoke detectors (at least monthly) to ensure they are functioning correctly.
  • Place detectors strategically, avoiding direct proximity to cooking areas or bathrooms to prevent nuisance alarms from steam or cooking fumes.
  • When installing, consider using the magnetic holder for easier placement and removal for cleaning or testing.
