MatSee Plus Tuya Smart Life WiFi Energy Meter 80A User Manual

Model: PJ-1103

1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your MatSee Plus Tuya Smart Life WiFi Energy Meter 80A with Clamp CT. This device allows you to monitor electricity consumption (KWh), voltage, current, and power in real-time via the Tuya Smart or Smart Life mobile application. It is designed for single-phase AC systems within the range of 100-240V and measures current from 0.2A to 80A.

Important Note:

  • This is not a bidirectional meter; it measures only consumed power and displays positive data in the App.
  • The meter requires a neutral wire for the measured device to accurately measure voltage, current, and power.

2. Safety Information

2.1. Safety Installation

WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions may result in death or serious injury.

  • The power clamp must be installed and serviced only by qualified electrical personnel.
  • Do not touch the terminals of the device during testing.
  • Turn off all power supply for this equipment before installing.
  • Make sure that the power supply is off before connecting or disconnecting it to an auxiliary device.
  • Always use a properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm power is off.

4. Setup Guide

4.1. Download the Application

The MatSee Plus Energy Meter operates with the Tuya Smart or Smart Life application. Download the app from your device's app store:

  • Scan the QR code provided in the product packaging or below.
  • Search for 'Smart Life' or 'Tuya Smart' in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

4.2. Wiring Diagram

Before proceeding with wiring, ensure the main power supply is OFF. The energy meter is designed for non-invasive current measurement using a clamp CT. Only one wire (either live or neutral) should pass through the clamp CT. Passing both wires will result in zero readings.

Note: Please only put one wire (either live wire or neutral wire) into the current transformer, not both wires together, otherwise the reading value will be zero.

4.3. Add the Device to the App

  1. Ensure the energy meter is powered on.
  2. Press and hold the reset button on the meter for approximately 5 seconds until the red indicator light flashes quickly. This puts the device into pairing mode.
  3. Open the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app on your smartphone.
  4. Tap 'Add Device' or the '+' icon.
  5. The app will search for nearby devices. Select 'Smart Energy Meter' or 'WiFi Digital Meter' when it appears.
  6. Enter your Wi-Fi network credentials (ensure it's a 2.4GHz network).
  7. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the pairing process.
  8. Once successfully added, tap 'Done'.

5. Operation

5.1. Real-time Monitoring

Once the device is successfully added and a load is connected, the app will display real-time data:

  • Voltage (V): Current voltage of the circuit.
  • Current (A): Current flowing through the clamped wire.
  • Power (W): Instantaneous power consumption.
  • Load Percentage: Visual representation of the current load.

5.2. Electricity Statistics

The app provides comprehensive electricity statistics, allowing you to track consumption over various periods:

  • Hourly Electricity (KWh)
  • Daily Electricity (KWh)
  • Monthly Electricity (KWh)
  • Yearly Electricity (KWh)
  • Total Electricity (KWh)

5.3. Power Usage Percentage Monitoring

You can set a maximum power value in the app to monitor the power usage as a percentage of that set value.

5.4. Automation and Scene Creation

The device supports automation features, allowing it to interact with other Tuya-compatible smart devices or send notifications based on energy parameters.

  • Threshold-based Automation: Set a scene where if the power or current exceeds a predefined value, another Tuya device activates.
  • Notification Automation: Configure the app to send a notification when the measured device turns off.

6. Maintenance

6.1. General Care

  • Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning.
  • Avoid exposing the device to water or other liquids.

6.2. Uninstalling the Clamp

WARNING: FOR SAFETY. If you need to remove the current transformer clamp, please be sure to turn off the power of the measuring device first, otherwise there is a risk of electric shock.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1. App Shows 'Device shutdown'

Q: After I configure it with the App, why does the App show 'Device shutdown'?

A: The 'Device shutdown' status indicates that the clamp CT is not sensing any current. This can happen if:

  • No device is connected to the circuit being monitored.
  • The connected device is not turned on or is not drawing sufficient current.
  • Both the live and neutral wires are incorrectly placed inside the clamp CT. Only one wire (either live or neutral) should pass through the clamp.

The clamp will only sense current and the App will show 'Device working' if a device's wire (either live or neutral, not both) is correctly placed in the clamp and the device is turned on, drawing a current greater than 0.05A.

7.2. Incorrect Power Value (P=U*I)

Q: I assume P = U * I, why is the power value shown on the App not correct?

A: The power calculation in AC circuits also considers the power factor (cos(Φ)). The formula for real power (P) is P = V * I * cos(Φ) Watts (W). Resistances do not produce any phase shift between voltage and current, so all useful power is delivered. However, for inductive or capacitive loads, there is a phase difference, and the simple multiplication of voltage and current (apparent power) does not represent the actual power consumed (real power). The meter calculates real power by taking this power factor into account.

8. User Tips

  • For accurate readings, ensure only one conductor (live or neutral) passes through the clamp CT.
  • When testing, make sure the connected load draws at least 0.05A for the meter to register activity. Avoid using very low-power devices like LEDs under 10W for initial testing, as the app might not display data.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app's automation features to maximize the utility of your energy meter, such as setting alerts for high consumption or integrating with other smart home devices.
  • Regularly check the app for historical data to identify trends in your energy consumption and optimize usage.
