4. Setup Instructions
4.1. Hardware Installation
- Use the provided Type-A to Type-C cable to connect the CF-987BE adapter to a USB port on your computer.
- Tip for Desktop Users: For optimal performance and to avoid power issues, connect the adapter to a USB port on the back of your desktop computer case. Front USB ports may sometimes be underpowered or unavailable.
4.2. Driver Installation (Driver-Free)
The CF-987BE features a built-in driver for automatic installation. Follow these steps:
- After connecting the adapter, open "This PC" (or "My Computer") on your desktop.
- You should see a new drive labeled "CD Drive (K:) COMFAST WiFi7" or similar. Double-click this drive.
- After running the installation file, select your preferred language (e.g., English) and click "OK".
- Continue to click "Install" to complete the driver installation.
- Once the installation is complete, please restart your computer.
- After restarting, you can verify the driver installation by right-clicking "This PC" (or "My Computer"), selecting "Manage", then navigating to "Device Manager" and expanding "Network adapters". You should see "Realtek 8912AU Wireless LAN WiFi 7 USB NIC" listed.
- Double-clicking the adapter in Device Manager will show its properties and confirm the driver is running normally.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Connecting to a Wireless Network
- Ensure the driver is correctly installed.
- Click on the wireless adapter icon in the lower right corner of your taskbar (system tray). This will display a list of available wireless networks.
- Select the wireless network you wish to connect to and enter its password.
- Click "Next" or "Connect" to establish the connection.
5.2. Verifying Network Connection Status
- After connecting to a network, the system tray icon will change to indicate a successful connection.
- Right-click the network icon and choose "Network & Internet settings" to open the settings interface.
- Click on "Wi-Fi" and then on your connected network name to view details such as IP address, MAC address, gateway, and driver version.

7. Troubleshooting
- Driver not installing automatically: Ensure the adapter is securely connected to a working USB 3.0 port. For desktop PCs, try a rear USB port. Restart your computer after connecting the adapter.
- Cannot find Wi-Fi networks: Verify the adapter is properly installed in Device Manager. Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled in your computer's settings.
- Slow connection speed: Ensure you are connected to the appropriate band (5GHz or 6GHz for higher speeds, if your router supports it). Check for physical obstructions or interference. Ensure your router is also WiFi 7 compatible for maximum performance.
- Intermittent connection: Try moving the adapter to a different location using the extension cable to improve signal strength. Ensure your router's firmware is up to date.
