5. Setup

5.1. Battery Installation and Charging

    • Using the Base Charger: Place the radio into the charging cradle. Ensure the charging contacts align. The indicator light on the charger will show charging status.
    • Using the Type-C Port: Connect the provided Type-C USB cable to the radio's Type-C port and a compatible USB power source (e.g., computer, USB wall adapter, power bank, car charger).

5.2. Antenna Attachment

Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

5.3. Initial Power-On

Rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise to turn on the radio. Continue rotating to adjust the volume to a comfortable level.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Power On/Off and Volume

Turn the Power/Volume knob clockwise to power on and increase volume. Turn counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off.

6.2. Frequency Range and Selection

The UV-5RH Pro Max supports a wide range of frequencies:

  • FM Radio: 65-108MHz (Receive only)
  • AM Air Band: 108-130MHz (Receive only)
  • VHF1: 350-355MHz (Receive only)
  • VHF2: 136-174MHz (Transmit/Receive)
  • VHF3: 200-260MHz (Transmit/Receive)
  • UHF: 400-520MHz (Transmit/Receive)

Press the VFO/MR button to switch between Frequency Mode (VFO) and Channel Mode (MR).

6.3. Channel Selection (MR Mode)

In Channel Mode, use the UP/DOWN arrow keys or the numeric keypad to select one of the 999 memory channels.

6.4. One-Click Frequency Matching (Wireless Copy Frequency)

This feature allows quick pairing with other compatible models. To use this function for accurate reproduction, ensure two wireless stations maintain a distance of at least 30 centimeters. Scan the frequency and sub-audio frequency, then press the menu key to save to a channel.

6.5. PTT Button Usage

Press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the left side of the radio to transmit your voice. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting and return to receive mode.

6.6. FM Radio

Press the FM Radio button to enter FM radio mode. Use the keypad to tune to desired FM stations (65-108MHz).

6.7. NOAA Weather Scan

6.8. Flashlight Function

6.9. VOX (Voice Controlled Transmission)

VOX allows hands-free operation by transmitting automatically when it detects your voice. Activate and adjust VOX sensitivity through the radio's menu settings.

6.10. Scanning Modes

The radio offers three scanning modes: Time, Carrier, and Search. These modes allow you to scan for active frequencies or channels. Consult the menu for selection and configuration.

6.11. Alarm Mode

6.12. CTCSS/DCS Scanning
