5.2 Initial Power On

Once the power source is connected, slide the Power Switch to the 'ON' position. The LEDs should briefly illuminate as the device powers on.

6. Operating Instructions

The USB Cable Tester is designed for straightforward operation. Follow these steps to test your USB cables:

  1. Prepare the Cable: Ensure the USB cable you wish to test is clean and free from visible damage.
  2. Connect the Cable: Insert both ends of the USB cable into the corresponding connectors on the test board. For example, if testing a USB-A to USB-C cable, connect the USB-A end to a USB-A port on Pinrow A and the USB-C end to a USB-C port on Pinrow B.
  3. Observe LED Indicators: The 24 LED indicators will light up to show the connection status of each pin. A lit LED indicates a successful connection for that specific pin.
  4. Interpret Results:
    • All relevant LEDs lit: The cable is functioning correctly for all connected pins.
    • Some LEDs unlit: Indicates an open circuit or broken wire for the corresponding pin.
    • Unexpected LEDs lit or flickering: May indicate a short circuit or intermittent connection.

7. Maintenance

  • Keep the device clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • If using a CR2032 battery, remove it if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1 Device Does Not Power On

  • Check Power Switch: Ensure the power switch is in the 'ON' position.
  • CR2032 Battery: Verify the CR2032 battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • External Power Supply: If using external power, ensure the DC adapter is providing 3-12V and is properly connected.

8.2 LEDs Do Not Light Up for a Known Good Cable

  • Cable Connection: Ensure both ends of the cable are fully and correctly inserted into the appropriate ports on the test board.
  • Power Source: Double-check the power source as described above.
  • Device Malfunction: If all other checks fail, the device may be faulty. Contact support.

8.3 Inconsistent LED Readings

  • Cable Integrity: The cable itself might have an intermittent fault. Try wiggling the cable gently while connected to see if LEDs flicker.
  • Connector Cleanliness: Ensure the cable connectors and the board's ports are clean and free of debris.
