Setup

The DSUNYK 900M-T series soldering tips are designed for easy installation and compatibility with standard soldering equipment.

Compatibility

  • These tips are specifically designed for use with 936 soldering stations and 907 handle lead-free soldering irons, including 937 soldering stations.

Installation

  1. Ensure your soldering iron is powered off and completely cooled before attempting to change tips.
  2. Carefully unscrew the retaining nut or collar that secures the current tip on your soldering iron handle.
  3. Remove the old tip.
  4. Select the desired 900M-T tip from the set.
  5. Insert the new tip into the heating element, ensuring it is fully seated.
  6. Secure the tip by tightening the retaining nut or collar. Do not overtighten.
  7. Before first use, ensure the tip is properly tinned (see 'Operating Instructions' for details).

Operating Instructions

Proper operation ensures optimal performance and longevity of your soldering tips.

Temperature Settings

  • For lead-free soldering, the optimal operating temperature range for these tips is 350°C to 400°C. Adjust your soldering station accordingly.
  • Using temperatures outside this range, especially excessively high temperatures, can reduce tip life.

Tinning the Tip

Before first use and periodically during operation, tin the tip:

  1. Heat the soldering iron to the recommended temperature.
  2. Apply a small amount of solder to the working end of the tip until it is fully coated. This prevents oxidation and improves heat transfer.

Tip Selection Guide

The set includes various tip shapes for different applications:

  • K-Type (Knife/Chisel): Ideal for drag soldering, correcting bridges, and soldering large pads.
  • B-Type (Conical): General purpose tip for most soldering tasks, suitable for small to medium components.
  • I-Type (Fine Conical): Very fine point for precision work, soldering small components, or in tight spaces.
  • C-Type (Bevel): Angled tip for soldering large components, drag soldering, and removing solder. (e.g., 2C, 3C, 4C)
  • D-Type (Screwdriver/Chisel): Flat, wide tip for soldering large pads, desoldering, and general purpose work. (e.g., 1.2D, 1.6D, 2.4D, 3.2D)

Maintenance

Proper maintenance extends the life and performance of your soldering tips.

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the tip on a damp sponge or brass wool to remove excess solder and flux residue.
  • Re-tinning: Always re-tin the tip with a fresh coat of solder after cleaning and before storing to prevent oxidation.
  • Oxidation Prevention: The tips feature nano-layered electroplating, which extends their life by approximately 35% compared to standard tips. However, excessive heat or prolonged exposure to air while hot can still cause oxidation.
  • Storage: Store tips in a dry, clean environment. The included plastic bag can be used for organized storage.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your soldering tips, consider the following:

  • Poor Heat Transfer / Solder Not Sticking: This is often due to an oxidized tip. Clean and re-tin the tip thoroughly. Ensure your soldering iron is reaching the correct temperature (350-400°C for lead-free solder).
  • Tip Blackening / Excessive Oxidation: This can be caused by using too high a temperature, leaving the iron on for extended periods without use, or insufficient tinning. Reduce temperature if possible, and ensure regular cleaning and re-tinning.
  • Tip Degradation / Pitting: While these tips are nano-layered for durability, aggressive cleaning methods or highly corrosive fluxes can cause premature wear. Use gentle cleaning methods and appropriate flux.
