3. Operating Instructions

3.1 OLED Display

The 0.96-inch OLED display provides essential information, including:

  • Current frequency
  • Selected band (FM, AM, MW, SW, LSB, USB)
  • AGC (Automatic Gain Control) status (on/off)
  • MONO/STEREO status (for FM)

3.2 Band Selection

Use the BAND+ and BAND- buttons to cycle through the available frequency bands. The receiver supports:

  • FM
  • AM (Medium Wave and Shortwave)
  • SSB (Lower Sideband and Upper Sideband)

The device comes with 22 pre-configured commercial and ham radio bands.

3.3 Tuning and Frequency Step

The large rotary knob labeled TUNE/BFO/ATS is primarily used for tuning. Rotate it clockwise to increase frequency and counter-clockwise to decrease frequency.

The STEP button allows you to change the tuning step size. Available step sizes are 1 KHz, 5 KHz, and 10 KHz. Press the STEP button to toggle between these options.

3.4 Volume Control

Adjust the audio output level using the VOL+ and VOL- buttons.

3.5 Bandwidth Filter (BW)

Press the BW button to select different audio bandwidth filters. This is particularly useful for improving reception in crowded bands or for specific signal types. Available bandwidths include: 0.5 KHz, 1 KHz, 1.2 KHz, 2.2 KHz, 3 KHz, and 4 KHz.

3.6 BFO Control

The TUNE/BFO/ATS rotary knob also functions as a BFO (Beat Frequency Oscillator) control, essential for fine-tuning SSB signals. Typically, a short press of the knob or a dedicated mode button (if present) will switch its function to BFO adjustment. Refer to the on-screen display for the active function of the knob.

3.7 AGC (Automatic Gain Control)

The AGC button toggles the Automatic Gain Control feature on or off. AGC helps to maintain a consistent audio output level despite variations in signal strength.

3.8 Audio Output

  • Internal Speaker: The receiver has a built-in 8ohm speaker with 1.5W output.
  • Headphone Jack: For private listening, connect 3.5mm headphones to the 'head phone' jack on the rear panel.

4. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the receiver. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Charge the device regularly, especially if it will be stored for an extended period.
  • Storage: Store the receiver in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 No Power

  • Ensure the 'OFF/ON' switch is in the 'ON' position.
  • Check if the battery is charged. Connect the USB-C cable to a power source and observe the 'charge led'.

5.2 No Reception or Poor Signal

  • Verify the antenna is securely connected to the 'ANT' port and fully extended.
  • Ensure you have selected the correct band for the frequency you are trying to receive.
  • Adjust the tuning knob carefully. Try different frequency step sizes using the 'STEP' button.
  • For SSB signals, fine-tune using the BFO control.
  • Check the surrounding environment for potential interference sources.

5.3 Poor Audio Quality

  • Adjust the volume using the 'VOL+' and 'VOL-' buttons.
  • Experiment with different bandwidth filter settings using the 'BW' button to reduce noise or interference.
  • Ensure headphones are fully inserted into the 'head phone' jack if used.

  • Understanding Bands: The receiver covers a wide range of frequencies. If you are new to radio, familiarize yourself with common frequency ranges for different types of broadcasts (e.g., local FM radio, international shortwave, amateur radio bands).
  • Tuning Between Numbers: The frequency step buttons (1, 5, 10 KHz) allow for precise tuning. If you need to tune to a frequency not directly on a 10 KHz or 5 KHz increment, use the 1 KHz step for finer adjustments.
  • Customization: The printed circuit board retains the SI4732 package, allowing advanced users to replace the chip and use compatible software for further customization.
