1. Introduction

The BAOFENG UV-5RH PRO GPS is a professional multi-band ham radio designed for reliable communication across various environments. This upgraded model features built-in GPS functionality, wireless frequency copying, versatile Type-C USB charging, and access to NOAA weather stations. With a 1.77-inch color screen and up to 640 channels, it offers enhanced visibility and extensive communication options. 2. Setup

2.1 Package Contents

Before you begin, ensure all items are present in your package:

• 1x Portable radio (UV-5RH PRO GPS)
• 1x Antenna
• 1x Li-ion battery pack
• 1x Belt clip
• 1x Sling
• 1x User's manual

2.2 Battery Installation

1. Align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio.
2. Slide the battery pack upwards until it clicks into place.
3. To remove, press the release latch (if present) and slide the battery downwards.

2.3 Antenna Attachment

1. Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight.
2. Do not overtighten.

2.4 Charging the Battery

The UV-5RH PRO GPS supports two charging methods: Type-C USB charging and traditional base charging.

• Type-C USB Charging: Connect a Type-C USB cable to the radio's Type-C port and to a compatible power source (e.g., car charger, power bank, laptop). This method offers flexibility for charging on the go.
• Base Charging: Place the radio into the charging base. Ensure the contacts on the radio align with the contacts on the base. Connect the base to a power outlet.

The charging indicator on the radio or base will show the charging status. A full charge typically takes several hours.

3.1 Controls Overview

• Power/Volume Knob: Turn clockwise to power on and increase volume; counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off.
• Antenna: For transmitting and receiving signals.
• Color LCD: 1.77-inch display for frequency, channel, and status information.
• SK1-Broadcast FM and Alarm Key: Activates FM radio or emergency alarm.
• PTT Key (Push-to-Talk): Press and hold to transmit; release to receive.
• VFO/MR Mode Key: Switches between Frequency Mode (VFO) and Channel Mode (MR).
• SK2-Monitor Key: Opens the squelch to listen for weak signals.

3.3 Wireless Copy Frequency

This feature allows you to quickly copy the frequency and privacy code from another radio. This eliminates the need for manual programming and ensures seamless communication.

1. Step 1: Power on your UV-5RH PRO GPS. Press the green button (often labeled with a square icon) to enter the "FQSCAN" interface. The display will show "SEEK".
2. Step 2: Have the other walkie-talkie transmit on its desired frequency. Your UV-5RH PRO GPS will search for the transmission frequency and privacy code. Once found, press the MENU button to confirm and store the frequency.
3. Step 3: Switch to channel mode. The display will now show the other person's frequency, and you can begin communicating.

3.4 GPS Function

The built-in GPS allows for location sharing and tracking, enhancing teamwork and safety.

In GPS mode, you can:

• View My Position: See your current longitude and latitude.
• Share Position: Transmit your location information to other radios.
• Request Position: Request location information from other radios.

Note: For GPS location information to be received and sent, radios must operate on the same frequency/channel and be set to "Signaling Calls". Voice calls must exit GPS mode to proceed.

The radio can receive broadcasts from 10 NOAA weather stations, providing timely hazard weather alerts to help you prepare.
