4. Setup & Installation

4.1 Dashcam Installation

  1. Fix the dashcam securely onto your vehicle's original rearview mirror using the provided rubber bands.
  2. Insert the car charger into the car's cigarette lighter socket.
  3. Connect the USB interface of the dashcam to the car charger using the charging extension cable.
  4. Carefully lay the charging extension cable along the edge of the windshield to keep it tidy and out of the way.
  5. Adjust the dashcam's lens position to ensure it captures a level and clear view of the road ahead.
  6. Start the vehicle's engine and verify that the dashcam powers on and begins recording correctly. The video indicator should flash.

4.2 Rear Camera Installation

  1. Select an appropriate installation position for the rear camera, typically above the license plate.
  2. Clean the chosen area thoroughly to remove any oil or dust.
  3. Peel off the protective film from the double-sided adhesive on the camera bracket and firmly attach it to the cleaned surface.
  4. Connect the rear camera cable to the dashcam's AV-IN interface.
  5. Route the rear camera cable along the vehicle's interior, ensuring it is neatly tucked away and does not interfere with driving.
  6. Connect the red wire of the rear camera cable to the reverse light's positive (+) terminal for automatic reverse assistance.
  7. Adjust the angle of the rear camera while observing the image on the dashcam's LCD screen.
  8. For optimal performance, it is recommended to install the rear camera outside the car, as it is waterproof.
  9. Do not cut or modify the extension cord, as this may affect the camera's stability and functionality.

4.3 GPS Module Installation (Optional)

If you have the GPS version, install the GPS module as follows:

  1. Install the GPS module on the instrument panel near the front end of the windshield.
  2. Ensure there is no metal covering the module, as this can affect GPS signal reception.
  3. After determining the position, clean the surface and firmly attach the GPS module.

4.4 Mobile APP Installation

The dashcam supports a mobile application for real-time viewing and video management.

  1. On the dashcam, go to Settings and click "WIFIswitch" to turn on Wi-Fi.
  2. Then, navigate to "WIFIinformation" to find the QR code for the app download. Alternatively, search for "Roadcam" in your mobile app store.
  3. Download and install the "Roadcam" app on your iOS or Android device.
  4. On your mobile phone, enable Wi-Fi and connect to the dashcam's Wi-Fi hotspot. The hotspot name and password (default: 12345678) will be displayed on the dashcam screen.
  5. Once connected, open the Roadcam app. The app will automatically connect to the dashcam, displaying a live preview. During app connection, the dashcam screen cannot be operated directly.

5. Operation

5.1 Power Button Functions

  • On/Off: In shutdown state, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn on. In power-on state, long press for 3 seconds to save video files and shut down.
  • Display Backlight: In any state, short press the power button to turn off the backlight (sleep mode). Short press again to light up.
  • Reset: If the recorder crashes, short press the reset hole on the back of the fuselage and reconnect power to return to normal.

5.2 Main Interface

The main interface displays the live view from the cameras. You can interact with it using the touch screen.

  • Video Lock Icon: Indicates if the video is locked (protected from overwriting).
  • Recording Icon: A red slash indicates recording is muted. A small red dot indicates recording is active.
  • Photo Icon: Tap to take a photo.
  • Playback Icon: Access video playback.
  • Settings Icon: Enter system settings.
  • Voice Control Icon: Tap to open/close voice control.
  • Swipe Screen: Swipe left/right to switch between front and back camera views, or split-screen display.

5.3 Video Playback

Access recorded videos and pictures through the playback interface.

  • Circular Video File: Switch to view videos recorded in a loop.
  • Lock Video File: View videos that have been locked (emergency recordings).
  • Snapshot Picture File: View captured still images.
  • Front Camera Video File: View recordings specifically from the front camera.
  • Rear Camera Video File: View recordings specifically from the rear camera.
  • Select/Delete: Use the icons to select multiple files and delete them.

5.4 Recorder Settings

Access settings via the gear icon on the main interface.

  • Resolution: Choose between 1080P, 2.7K, and 4K for front camera recording. Default is 4K.
  • Cyclic Recording: Set video segment duration (1min, 2min, 3min). Default is 1 minute.
  • Exposure: Adjust exposure levels (-3 to +3). Default is 0.
  • Startup Sound: Enable or disable the machine's startup sound.
  • Voice Recognition: Turn voice control on or off.
  • Parking Mode: Enable or disable. When enabled, the G-sensor detects shakes/collisions while parked, initiating a 15-second video recording. Requires OBDPEAK Hardware Kit.
  • Accelerometer (G-Sensor): Built-in collision sensors. In case of a serious collision, the recorder locks the current image data as a special file, preventing overwriting. Sensitivity can be set to high, medium, low, or off.
  • Screen Hibernation: Set a countdown time for the screen backlight to turn off when inactive (Relevant, 1 minute, 3 minutes).
  • Language Settings: Select from various languages including English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai, and Vietnamese.
  • Recording Switch: Turn video recording on or off.
  • Preview Mode: Choose between front recording, back recording, or split-screen display.
  • Time Format: Select 12-hour or 24-hour system. Default is 24-hour.
  • Post-Recording Mirror: Adjust the mirror effect for the rear camera's preview screen. This does not affect the actual recorded video.
  • Volume: Adjust system volume, including key sounds and playback audio.
  • Shrink Interval (Parking Monitor): When parking monitoring is active, records at 1 frame per second to save memory. Options include 1S, 0.5S, 5S, or off.
  • Short Time Recording: For parking monitoring, records for 12 or 24 hours before quitting.
  • WIFI: Turn Wi-Fi on or off. Default is off.
  • Light Source Frequency: Select 50Hz or 60Hz. Default is 50Hz.
  • Date: Set the current local date and time. If GPS is connected, time will be calibrated automatically.
  • Formatting: Format the MicroSD card. This deletes all files. Regular formatting is recommended every 1-2 weeks.
  • GPS Information/Watermarking: Display GPS data (position, speed) and embed longitude/latitude watermarks on video files (optional).
  • Speed Unit: Select km/h or MPH/h. Default is km/h.
  • Time Zone Selection: Select your local time zone.
  • Restore Factory Settings: Reset all settings to default.
  • Device Information: View system version, Wi-Fi name, password, and app details.

5.5 Mobile APP Usage

The Roadcam app allows you to:

  • View live video feeds from both front and rear cameras.
  • Download recorded videos and photos directly to your phone.
  • Manage and delete files.
  • Emergency videos are automatically locked to prevent overwriting.

6. Maintenance

  • Handle with Care: Avoid squeezing or applying excessive force to the dashcam.
  • Regular Formatting: Format the MicroSD card every 1-2 weeks to ensure optimal performance and prevent recording issues.
  • MicroSD Card Quality: Always use a high-speed MicroSD card (Class 10, U1 or higher) with a capacity of at least 8GB, up to 128GB.
  • GPS Signal: Ensure the GPS module (if installed) has an unobstructed view of the sky for accurate signal reception.
  • Cleaning: Keep the camera lenses clean from dust and smudges for clear recordings.

7. Troubleshooting

Q: How to download and connect to the mobile APP?
A: 1. On the dashcam, go to Settings > WIFIswitch > Open to turn on Wi-Fi. 2. Go to Settings > WIFIinformation to scan the QR code for the app, or search for "Roadcam" in your app store. 3. Connect your phone to the dashcam's Wi-Fi hotspot (name and password displayed on screen, default password is 12345678). 4. Open the Roadcam app to connect.
Q: How to change the mirroring effect of the rear camera?
A: Go to Settings > 'Back Mirror' and select either on or off.
Q: Why can't the screen be operated when connecting to the APP?

A: For 4K resolution recording, a high-standard Micro SD card is required. Ensure your card has a U1 & Class 10 rating.

A: Parking surveillance mode can only be activated by installing the OBDPEAK hardware kit. Once installed, you can enable it in the video settings list.

  • Constant Rear View: The dashcam can be configured to display the rear camera view constantly, effectively functioning as a digital rearview mirror, which is particularly useful for vehicles without a traditional central mirror.
