Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off and Volume Control
- Power On: Rotate the Power/Volume knob (top-right) clockwise until you hear a click. The display will light up.
- Power Off: Rotate the Power/Volume knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click.
- Volume Adjustment: Rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise to increase volume and counter-clockwise to decrease it.
2. Channel Selection and Frequency Mode
- The TH-UV58 supports 200 channels. Use the Up/Down arrow keys on the keypad to navigate through channels.
- The radio operates in both Channel Mode and Frequency Mode. Refer to the full user manual for switching between modes and programming channels/frequencies.
3. Transmitting and Receiving
- Receiving: When a signal is received on the current channel/frequency, the radio will automatically unmute and you will hear the audio.
- Transmitting: Press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the left side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to listen.
4. Dual Band Dual Wait Dual Standby
This feature allows the radio to monitor two different frequencies (A and B) simultaneously. You can set one frequency as primary and the other as secondary. The radio will automatically switch to the active frequency for communication.
5. One Key Frequency Copy
The TH-UV58 includes a "One Key Frequency Copy" function, allowing for quick duplication of frequency settings from another radio. Consult the detailed manual for specific steps on how to use this feature.
6. VOX Function (Voice Operated Transmit)
When VOX is enabled, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice, without needing to press the PTT button. This is useful for hands-free operation. The sensitivity level of VOX can usually be adjusted in the menu.
7. Torching Function (Flashlight)
The radio is equipped with a built-in flashlight. Activate it via a dedicated button or menu option (refer to your full manual for exact activation method).
8. Keypad Lock
To prevent accidental key presses, the keypad can be locked. There are multiple types of key lock settings available. Typically, a long press of the '#' key or a menu option will activate/deactivate the lock.
Maintenance
1. General Cleaning
- Wipe the radio's surface with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Ensure the charging port covers are securely closed to maintain waterproofing.
2. Waterproofing (IP68)
The TH-UV58 is rated IP68, meaning it is protected against dust ingress and can withstand immersion in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. However, to maintain this rating:
- Always ensure the battery cover and all port covers (e.g., Type-C, accessory port) are securely fastened before exposing the radio to water or dust.
- Do not intentionally submerge the radio unless necessary and all covers are sealed.
- After exposure to saltwater, rinse the radio with fresh water and dry thoroughly.
3. Battery Care
- Charge the battery fully before initial use.
- Avoid overcharging or completely draining the battery, as this can reduce its lifespan.
- If storing the radio for an extended period, charge the battery to about 50% and remove it from the radio. Store in a cool, dry place.
- Use only original or approved replacement batteries and chargers.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Radio does not power on. | Battery is dead or not installed correctly. | Ensure battery is fully charged and properly installed. |
| Cannot transmit or receive. | Incorrect frequency/channel, low battery, or antenna issue. | Verify frequency/channel settings. Charge battery. Check antenna connection. |
| Poor audio quality or no sound. | Volume too low, squelch level too high, or external interference. | Adjust volume. Lower squelch level. Move away from sources of interference. |
| Keypad is unresponsive. | Keypad lock is activated. | Deactivate keypad lock (e.g., long press '#' key). |

User Tips
- Programming Software: For advanced customization and channel programming, consider using the official TYT programming software and a compatible programming cable. This allows for easier management of the 200 channels and various settings.
- Antenna Choice: While the included antenna is suitable for general use, experimenting with different aftermarket antennas (tuned for specific frequency ranges) can sometimes improve range and signal quality.
- Battery Life Optimization: Utilize the "Battery Saving Mode" feature to extend operational time, especially during long periods of standby. Reduce backlight brightness and disable unnecessary features like VOX if not actively needed.
- IP68 Protection: Always double-check that the battery cover and all port seals are firmly closed before exposing the radio to wet or dusty environments to maintain its IP68 rating.
- Range Considerations: The stated maximum range of 5-10km is an ideal figure. Actual range will vary significantly based on terrain, obstructions (buildings, hills), weather conditions, and electromagnetic interference. Test your radio in your typical operating environment to understand its practical range.
