1. Introduction

The KONNWEI KW210 is an automatic smart 12V car battery tester and auto battery analyzer designed to quickly and accurately assess battery health and alternator status. This professional vehicle diagnostic tool features a color screen, unique design, and offers lifetime free update service, making it ideal for both professional and personal use. It helps identify battery status (Good or Replace), check battery capacity (Cold Cranking Amps - CCA), internal resistance, and display life in percentage. It also performs battery cranking tests, load tests, battery charging tests, and ripple tests, with graphing voltage real-time monitoring capabilities.

4. Setup and Initial Use

The KW210 Battery Tester is designed for ease of use. It does not require internal batteries and powers on automatically when connected to a 12V vehicle battery.

4.1 Connecting the Tester

  1. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is off.
  2. Locate the vehicle's 12V battery.
  3. Connect the red crocodile clip to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.
  4. Connect the black crocodile clip to the negative (-) terminal of the battery.
  5. The tester will power on automatically and display the main menu.

4.2 Menu Navigation

Use the UP and DOWN arrow buttons to scroll through menu options. Press the ENTER button to select an option or confirm an action. Use the ESC button to return to the previous screen or cancel an operation.

5. Operating the KW210

The KW210 offers various testing functions to diagnose your vehicle's battery and charging system.

5.1 Battery Test

This function checks the overall health of the battery, including its capacity (CCA), internal resistance, and remaining life percentage.

  1. From the main menu, select "Battery Test" (or similar option).
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to input battery type and CCA rating if required.
  3. The tester will display results such as battery voltage, charge percentage, healthy percentage, internal resistance, and a status (e.g., GOOD BATTERY, REPLACE BATTERY).

5.2 Cranking Test

The cranking test evaluates the battery's ability to start the engine.

  1. From the main menu, select "Cranking Test".
  2. Choose "In-Vehicle" or "Out-of-Vehicle" based on your setup.
  3. Follow the on-screen instruction to "START ENGINE".
  4. The tester will analyze the cranking voltage and time, then display the results and status.

5.3 Charging Test (Alternator Test)

This test checks the vehicle's charging system, including the alternator's output voltage and ripple status.

  1. From the main menu, select "Charging Test".
  2. The tester may prompt you to increase the engine RPM to 2500 r/min and hold for 5 seconds.
  3. Press ENTER to continue.
  4. The tester will display loaded voltage, unloaded voltage, and ripple voltage.

5.4 Ripple Test

The ripple test measures the AC voltage component in the DC charging system, indicating potential issues with the alternator's rectifier diodes.

  1. This test is typically integrated into the Charging Test.
  2. The tester will display the ripple voltage (e.g., in mV). High ripple voltage can indicate a faulty alternator.

5.5 Data Storage and Review

The KW210 can store test results for later review. Navigate to the "Data Storage" or "Review" option in the main menu to access previously saved test data.

5.6 Printing Test Results

You can print test results and battery reports by connecting the KW210 to a PC via the provided USB cable and using the KONNWEI update tool software.

6. Language Settings

The KW210 supports multiple languages for user convenience.

  1. From the main menu, navigate to "Setup".
  2. Select "LANGUAGE".
  3. Use the UP and DOWN arrow buttons to scroll through the available languages: English, Japanese, French, German, Russian, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Italian.
  4. Press ENTER to select your desired language.

7. Maintenance and Care

  • Keep the device clean by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or high humidity.
  • Store the device in its protective nylon case when not in use to prevent damage.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the device yourself, as this will void the warranty.

8. Firmware Update

The KONNWEI KW210 offers lifetime free firmware updates to ensure compatibility and improved functionality.

  1. Download the latest update tool software from the official KONNWEI website.
  2. Install the software on your PC.
  3. Connect the KW210 to your PC using the provided USB cable. Ensure you keep pressing any button on the scanner BEFORE connecting it to your PC to enter update mode.
  4. Open the update tool software. It should detect your device.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions in the software to download and install the latest firmware.

9. Troubleshooting

Device does not power on:
Ensure the crocodile clips are securely connected to the correct battery terminals (red to positive, black to negative). The device draws power directly from the battery.
Inaccurate readings:
Check that the battery terminals are clean and free of corrosion. Ensure the clips have a good connection. Verify that the correct battery type and CCA rating are entered if prompted.
Software update issues:
Make sure the USB cable is properly connected and that you are holding a button on the tester while connecting it to the PC to enter update mode. Ensure you have downloaded the correct update tool for the KW210 model.

10. User Tips

  • Always ensure a clean connection to the battery terminals for the most accurate results.
  • For cranking tests, ensure the engine is at operating temperature for a more realistic assessment.
  • Regularly check for firmware updates to keep your device optimized with the latest features and bug fixes.
