5. Setup and Connection

5.1 Charging the Scanner

Before first use, fully charge the scanner using the provided USB-C cable. Connect the USB-C end to the scanner's port and the USB-A end to a power adapter or computer USB port.

5.2 Connection Methods

The KEFAR KR-A9 scanner supports three connection methods:

  1. 2.4G Wireless Connection (via USB Dongle): Ideal for connecting to PCs or devices with USB ports.
  2. Bluetooth Wireless Connection: For mobile phones, tablets, and other Bluetooth-enabled devices.
  3. USB Wired Connection: Direct connection via USB cable for data transfer and charging.

5.3 2.4G Wireless Setup

  1. Power on the scanner by pressing the power button.
  2. Navigate to the 'Settings' menu on the scanner's screen using the navigation buttons.
  3. Select 'Wireless rf' and then 'Matching mode'. The screen will prompt you to reinsert the USB receiver.
  4. Insert the 2.4G USB receiver into an available USB port on your computer or host device.
  5. The scanner will automatically pair with the receiver. A success message will appear on the scanner's screen.

5.4 Bluetooth Wireless Setup

  1. Power on the scanner.
  2. Navigate to the 'Settings' menu and select 'Bluetooth'.
  3. Choose the desired Bluetooth mode (HID, SPP, or BLE) based on your host device's requirements. HID (Human Interface Device) is common for direct keyboard input.
  4. On your host device (phone, tablet, PC), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
  5. Select the scanner from the list of available devices to pair. A success message will appear on the scanner's screen upon successful connection.

5.5 USB Wired Connection

Simply connect the scanner to your computer using the USB-C cable. The scanner will function as a wired device and also charge simultaneously. No additional setup is typically required for basic scanning.

6. Operation

6.1 Scanning Barcodes

To scan a barcode, point the scanner's head at the barcode and press the scan button (or use automatic/continuous mode). The scanner will emit a light and a beep (if enabled) upon successful scan. The decoded data will be transmitted to your connected device.

6.2 Supported Barcode Types

The KEFAR KR-A9 supports a wide range of 1D and 2D barcodes, including:

  • 1D Codes: EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, ISSN, ISBN, CodeBar, Code 128, Code93, Interleaved 2 of 5, Industrial 2 of 5, Matrix 2 of 5, GS1 DataBar, Code 39, Code 11, MSI-Plessey, etc.
  • 2D Codes: QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF417, Micro QR, Aztec, etc.

The scanner is capable of reading barcodes from various surfaces, including paper, printed labels, plastic, and digital screens. It can also read damaged, distorted, colorful, fuzzy, and reflective barcodes.

6.3 Scanning Modes

The scanner supports the following decode modes:

  • Key Trigger: Scan by pressing the scan button.
  • Automatic Sensing: The scanner automatically detects and scans barcodes when presented.
  • Continuous Scanning: The scanner continuously scans without requiring a button press.

6.4 Data Storage and Upload

The scanner offers different working modes:

  • Synchronization Mode: Scans are immediately transmitted to the connected device.
  • Storage Mode: The scanner can store over 100,000 product codes internally. Data can be uploaded later.

The screen displays 'Store' and 'Total' counts, indicating the number of stored scans and total scans.

6.5 Transmission Range

The wireless transmission range varies based on the environment:

  • Under Obstacles Environment: Bluetooth Mode: 10m/32 ft; 2.4GHz Wireless Mode: 15m/49 ft.
  • In Barrier-Free Environment: Bluetooth Mode: 20m/65 ft; 2.4GHz Wireless Mode: 50m/164 ft.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

To maintain optimal performance, regularly clean the scanner's lens and exterior with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

7.2 Battery Care

The scanner is equipped with a 2000mAh Li-ion battery. To prolong battery life:

  • Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
  • Charge the battery regularly, even if not in use for extended periods.
  • Store the scanner in a cool, dry place when not in use.

A full charge takes approximately 2 hours. The battery provides up to 5 days of standby time and 12 hours of continuous work (scanning every 5 seconds).

8. Troubleshooting

8.1 Connection Issues

  • 2.4G Wireless not connecting: Ensure the USB receiver is properly inserted into the host device. On the scanner, select 'Wireless rf' and then 'Matching mode' and reinsert the USB receiver.
  • Bluetooth not pairing: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both the scanner and the host device. Check that the correct Bluetooth mode (HID, SPP, or BLE) is selected on the scanner. Try restarting both devices.

8.2 Scanning Issues

  • Scanner not reading barcodes: Ensure the barcode is clean, undamaged, and within the scanner's depth of field (10-800 mm). Check that the scanning light source is active.
  • Incorrect data output: Verify that the scanner is in the correct operating mode for your application.
