Installation Steps (Example: DIT KIT 5W Upgrade):

  1. Remove the original laser module: Carefully detach the existing laser module from your engraving machine.
  2. Connect the laser, ALC, and power adapter cables:
    • Plug the long ALC cable into the corresponding (MR30PW-FB) output end of the ALC.
    • Insert the output plug of the 24V power adapter provided for the laser module into the corresponding (MR30PW-M) interface of the ALC.
  3. Choose a suitable location to install the ALC adapter board: Select a secure place for the ALC, preferably behind the motor. Secure it using double-sided tape or zip ties.
  4. Mount the AlgoLaser ALM-10BD laser module onto the DIT KIT:
    • Connect the long ALC cable to the laser port.
    • Install the laser air pipe into the air pipe interface.
    • Secure the laser module tightly on the dovetail fixture.
  5. Power up the laser module for testing and use: Bundle the air pump, power cable, and old cables together. Note: When in use, ensure to set the ALC power control to the 'No' position.
  6. Operate the DIT KIT to run the laser for engraving and test the laser output: By completing the above steps, you have successfully upgraded your laser module.

Focusing the Laser:

The optimal focal length for the ALM-10BD is 5mm from the lens hood. Use the provided Focus Assist tool to achieve the smallest focal spot for best engraving and cutting results.

Safety Precautions:

Always wear appropriate laser safety glasses when operating the laser module. Ensure the work area is well-ventilated and free from flammable materials. Never leave the machine unattended during operation, as engraved materials may catch fire. It is recommended to have a fire extinguisher nearby.

5. Operating Instructions

Air Assist Function:

The ALM-10BD features a professional air assist interface. Connecting an air pump (not included) to the air assist nozzle helps blow away debris and smoke during cutting and engraving, resulting in cleaner edges and improved performance. This is particularly beneficial for cutting operations.

6. Maintenance

  • Lens Cleaning: Regularly inspect and clean the laser lens to ensure optimal performance and prevent contamination. Use a soft, lint-free cloth and appropriate lens cleaning solution.
  • General Cleaning: Keep the laser module and surrounding work area clean from dust and debris.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically check all cables for any signs of wear or damage.

7. Troubleshooting (FAQ)

Q: Why is the product title listed with higher wattage (e.g., 80W, 40W) but the laser is specified as 10W or 5W?
A: The higher wattage (80W / 40W) refers to the effective power of the laser machine, while the actual laser optical output power of the module is 10W or 5W, depending on the specific model.
Q: Is it possible to engrave metal with coating?
A: Yes, the ALM-10BD laser engraver uses compressed spot technology (0.05mm × 0.1mm spot size) and supports engraving metal with coating and various coated metals.
Q: Can this laser module engrave glass cups?
A: Yes, the ALM-10BD can engrave glass materials.
Q: Can this machine only cut dark acrylic?
A: Yes, the laser cutter can cut dark acrylic, but it is not suitable for cutting transparent acrylic.

8. User Tips

  • Parameter Adjustment: Results can vary even with the same material due to different finishes or colors. Always adjust speed and power rates based on the specific object. Fine-tune the focal length to achieve the smallest possible focal spot for optimal precision.
  • Material Limitations: Glossy metal plates, transparent materials, reflective materials, and partially white or light-transmitting materials cannot be engraved or cut directly. For these materials, you may need to use a marker pen to blacken the surface before engraving.
  • Minimum Cutting Speed: For 10W and above laser modules, it is recommended that the minimum cutting speed should not be less than 200mm/min. Slower speeds may cause the cutting materials to easily catch fire.
  • Fire Safety: When the laser engraver is operating, always pay close attention and never leave it unattended to prevent material ignition. Set up the laser engraver in a fireproof area with good ventilation. Keep a fire extinguisher close by.
