5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery bay cover, typically at the bottom of the handle.
  2. Open the battery bay cover.
  3. Insert two (2) 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery bay cover securely.

The device requires 2x AAA batteries for operation. Batteries are typically not included with the product.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Taking a Measurement

  1. Point the thermometer at the target surface. Ensure the target is within the device's object distance ratio (12:1).
  2. Press and hold the trigger to activate the laser pointer and begin measurement. The temperature reading will appear on the digital display.
  3. Release the trigger to hold the current temperature reading on the display (HOLD function).

6.2 Switching Temperature Units (°C/°F)

Press the dedicated °C/°F button on the device to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units.

6.3 Backlight Control

Press the backlight button (often indicated by a light bulb icon) to turn the display backlight on or off for better visibility in different lighting conditions.

6.4 Emissivity Adjustment (T400A, T600A models only)

For models T400A and T600A, the emissivity can be adjusted to improve measurement accuracy for different materials.

  • Access the emissivity adjustment mode (refer to device buttons, usually an "EMIS" or similar button).
  • Use the up/down arrows or dedicated buttons to set the emissivity value between 0.10 and 1.00.
  • Consult a reference table for common material emissivity values to ensure accurate readings.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the lens is clean and free of dust or debris for accurate readings.
  • Storage: Store the thermometer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Follow the battery installation steps in Section 5.1.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Device does not turn onDead or incorrectly installed batteriesReplace batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
Inaccurate readings
  • Dirty lens
  • Incorrect emissivity setting (A models)
  • Target too far or too small
  • Measurement of human/animal
  • Clean the lens.
  • Adjust emissivity for the target material.
  • Move closer to the target; ensure target fills the measurement spot.
  • Confirm the device is not used for biological temperature.

9. User Tips

  • Emissivity Matters: For models with adjustable emissivity (T400A, T600A), setting the correct emissivity for the material you are measuring is crucial for accuracy. Different surfaces (e.g., shiny metal vs. painted wood) have different emissivities.
  • Distance to Spot Ratio: Remember the 12:1 object distance ratio. This means that at 12 inches from the target, the measurement spot diameter is 1 inch. For accurate readings, ensure the target area is larger than the measurement spot.
  • Surface Condition: Be aware that shiny or polished surfaces can reflect ambient temperatures, potentially leading to inaccurate readings. For such surfaces, consider applying a matte black paint or tape to the measurement area if feasible.

10. Warranty and Support

For warranty information, technical support, or service inquiries, please contact your retailer or the manufacturer directly. Keep your purchase receipt as proof of purchase.
