3. Setup and Wiring
Careful wiring is essential for optimal performance and to avoid noise. Refer to the pinout diagram below for correct connections.

Figure 3: TD5161A Module Pinout Diagram.
Pin Descriptions:
- VCC: Power Input (DC 3V-5V)
- GND (Power): Power Ground (negative)
- OUT-R: Audio Output - Right Channel
- GND (Audio Output): Audio Output Ground
- OUT-L: Audio Output - Left Channel
- IN-R: Audio Input - Right Channel
- GND (Audio Input): Audio Input Ground
- IN-L: Audio Input - Left Channel
- K: Audio Input Control
- P/P: Pause/Play Button Input
- VOL-: Volume Down / Previous Song Button Input
- VOL+: Volume Up / Next Song Button Input
- MUDE: Mode Switching (Note: This function is reserved and currently invalid on this board.)
- MIC-IN: Microphone Input (for Bluetooth calling)
- M: Mute Control Output
- GND (Control): Ground for Control Pins
Connection Guidelines:
- Power Supply: Connect DC 3V-5V to the VCC and Power GND pins. It is highly recommended to use a high-quality, stable power supply to minimize noise.
- Audio Output: Connect OUT-R, OUT-L, and Audio Output GND to your amplifier or audio system.
- Bluetooth Reception Only: If you only intend to use the module for Bluetooth reception, only the power supply and audio output connections are necessary. Other interfaces can be left unconnected.
- Audio Signal Input: To enable the wired audio input function, the 'K' pin must be connected to GND. This can be achieved using a self-locking switch or a headphone jack with a switch pin.
- Microphone: Connect an electret microphone to the MIC-IN pin to enable Bluetooth calling functionality. A microphone is not included and must be provided separately.
- External Buttons: The module does not include physical buttons. For Play/Pause (P/P), Volume Down/Previous Song (VOL-), and Volume Up/Next Song (VOL+), external buttons can be connected. These button functions are triggered by connecting the respective pin to GND.
- Mute Control (M): The 'M' interface provides a mute control signal. It outputs approximately 3.3V when playback is paused or there is no signal, and 0V during active playback. This can be connected to an amplifier board that supports a mute input.
4. Operating Instructions
Bluetooth Pairing:
- Ensure the TD5161A module is powered on (DC 3V-5V).
- On your mobile phone or Bluetooth-enabled device, search for available Bluetooth devices.
- Locate and select the device named "TD161A" from the list.
- Click to pair. Once paired, the module is ready to receive audio via Bluetooth.
Switching to Audio Input Function:
If the audio input function is desired, ensure the 'K' pin is connected to GND (as described in Section 3). The audio input function is active only when switched on while the module is powered. If the module is powered off and then on again, the audio input control switch (connected to 'K') needs to be toggled once to reactivate the audio input. Otherwise, the module will default to Bluetooth receiving mode.
Using External Control Buttons:
If external buttons are connected (P/P, VOL-, VOL+), they will perform the following actions when pressed (connected to GND):
- P/P: Toggles between Play and Pause.
- VOL-: Decreases volume with a short press; skips to the previous song with a long press.
- VOL+: Increases volume with a short press; skips to the next song with a long press.
Bluetooth Calling:
If a microphone is connected to the MIC-IN pin, the module supports Bluetooth calling. Specific controls for answering/ending calls would typically be managed via the paired device or additional control circuitry not detailed here.
5. Maintenance
- Power Supply Quality: Always use a stable and high-quality DC 3V-5V power supply. Poor power quality can introduce noise into the audio output.
- Cleanliness: Keep the module free from dust and moisture. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures.
- Handling: Handle the module with care to prevent damage to components or solder joints.
6. Troubleshooting
- No Power/Module Not Responding:
- Verify that the power supply is connected correctly (VCC and GND) and providing the specified DC 3V-5V.
- Check for any loose connections or short circuits.
- Excessive Noise in Audio Output:
- Ensure you are using a high-quality, stable power supply. Unstable power can cause significant noise.
- Check all audio connections for proper grounding and shielding.
- Ensure audio input/output cables are not running parallel to power lines or other sources of electromagnetic interference.
- Cannot Find "TD161A" During Bluetooth Scan:
- Confirm the module is powered on.
- Ensure no other device is currently paired with the module.
- Try restarting the Bluetooth function on your phone/device.
- Audio Input Function Not Working After Power Cycle:
- If the module was powered off and then on, the audio input control switch (connected to 'K') needs to be toggled once to re-enable the wired audio input.
- Buttons Not Responding:
- Ensure external buttons are correctly wired and making proper contact to GND when pressed.
7. User Tips
- External Controls: For ease of use in a finished project, consider integrating physical buttons for Play/Pause, Volume, and Track control.
- Grounding Practices: Proper grounding is crucial for minimizing noise in audio circuits. Ensure all GND connections are solid and common.
- Enclosure Design: When integrating the module into an enclosure, consider shielding to protect against external interference, especially if the environment is electrically noisy.
- Power Filtering: If experiencing persistent noise, adding additional power filtering (e.g., capacitors) near the module's power input can sometimes help.
