4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Main Menu Overview

The main menu provides access to the following function modules:

  • Local Diagnose: Configures the tool for professional diagnostic operations.
  • OBD II: Quick access to check for DTCs, isolate MIL causes, check monitor status, verify repairs, and perform emission-related services.
  • Service Function: Offers coding, reset, relearn, and other service functions.
  • Software Update: Updates vehicle diagnostic software and APK.
  • Mall: Subscribes to additional vehicle diagnostic or service software.
  • More: Includes Launch Academy, Online Service, Know Your Customer, Toolbox (Diagnostic Software Clear, Firmware Fix, DTC Library, Diagnostic Record, DLC Lookup, Image), and Mine (My Report, My Order, Settings).

4.2 Vehicle Diagnostics

This function is designed to diagnose electronic control systems of a single vehicle model, providing comprehensive full-system code coverage and special test functions.

Image showing the diagnostic tool performing full system diagnostics with Auto VIN scan
Figure 5: In-depth Full Systems Diagnostics with Auto VIN.

4.2.1 Smart Diagnostics (Auto-Detect)

This function quickly accesses vehicle electronic control systems by decoding the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), eliminating manual menu selection. Ensure "Automatic detection on connect" is ON in Settings. After connection and ignition ON, the system enters auto-detect mode.

  1. Once VIN information is successfully obtained, confirm it and tap OK to start diagnosing all available systems. A diagnostic report will be automatically generated.
  2. If VIN access fails, a screen will appear for manual VIN input. Input the VIN and tap OK.

Note: The VIN is usually a 17-character string of uppercase letters and numbers (excluding Q, I, O) found on the dashboard, driver's door, or firewall.

4.2.2 Manual Diagnostics

If Auto-Detect fails, you can perform vehicle diagnosis manually. Ensure the corresponding vehicle manufacturer software is installed. The diagnostic menu varies by vehicle make, model, and year.

Follow these general steps:

  1. Select Local Diagnose.
  2. Select Vehicle Manufacturer.
  3. Select Vehicle Model.
  4. Select Scan Mode (Automatic System Detection or Manual System Detection).
  5. Select Test Function (e.g., Read Version Information, Read Fault Code, Clear Fault Code, Read Data Stream, Special Function).

4.2.3 Health Report (Quick Test)

This function quickly accesses all electronic control units and generates a detailed report on vehicle health. Tap Health Report on the test item selection screen to scan ECUs. Fault codes are marked with a red cross, and working systems with a green tick.

  • Report: Saves the diagnostic result. Access reports via More -> Mine -> My Report.
  • Clear Code: Clears existing diagnostic trouble codes.

4.2.4 Read Fault Code (DTCs)

Displays detailed information of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved from the vehicle's control system. DTCs are five-digit alphanumeric codes indicating a problem area. The first character identifies the main system (B=Body, C=Chassis, P=Powertrain, U=Network), the second indicates code type (0=Generic, 1=Manufacturer Specific), the third identifies the specific system/sub-system, and the fourth/fifth identify the malfunctioning section.

  • Help: View DTC help information.
  • Code Search: Search for more information about the current DTC online.
  • Report: Save current data in text format.

Note: Never replace parts based solely on DTCs. Consult the vehicle's service manual for proper testing procedures.

4.2.5 Clear Fault Code

Erases codes from the vehicle after repairs. Ensure the ignition key is ON and the engine is OFF before performing this function. Clearing DTCs does not fix underlying problems; if repairs are not made, codes will reappear.

4.2.6 Read Data Stream

Retrieves and displays live data and parameters from the vehicle's ECU. Data can be viewed in text (list), waveform graphs, or combined graphs for comparison. Tap Select All or select specific items, then OK to view. Values outside the standard range will display in red.

  • Graph: Displays parameters in waveform graphs.
  • Combine: Merges graphs for data comparison.
  • Record: Records diagnostic data for troubleshooting. Access records via More -> Toolbox -> Diagnostic Record.

4.2.7 Actuation Test (Bi-directional Control)

Accesses vehicle-specific subsystem and component tests. The tool sends commands to the ECU to drive actuators (e.g., cycling A/C, fuel pump, parking brake test, oil pressure control, engine compartment fan) and determines system integrity by reading ECU data or monitoring actuator operation. Follow on-screen instructions.

Figure 7: Bi-directional Control in action.

Note: Function menu varies by vehicle make, model, and year. Ensure components are correctly installed before testing.

4.2.8 Special Function (All Maintenance Service Functions)

Offers coding, reset, and relearn functions to restore vehicle systems after repair or replacement. Available tests vary by vehicle. These functions are free and do not require additional purchases in the Mall.
