5. Setup

5.1. Battery Installation

The MASTFUYI FY8862 requires two (2) 1.5V AAA batteries (not included).

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Slide the cover open.
  3. Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Power On/Off

  • Press the red ON-OFF button to turn the device on.
  • Press and hold the red ON-OFF button again to turn the device off.

6.2. Basic Measurement

Once powered on, the device will immediately begin measuring sound levels and display the real-time value on the LCD screen.

6.3. MAX Mode

  • Press the MAX button to enter MAX mode. The display will show the maximum sound level recorded since entering this mode.
  • Press the MAX button again to exit MAX mode and return to real-time measurement.

6.4. FAST/SLOW Response Mode

  • Press the FAST/SLOW button to toggle between fast and slow response times.
  • FAST (125ms): Reads the sound level in real-time, suitable for capturing sudden noise changes.
  • SLOW (1000ms): Reads the current average sound level, suitable for measuring stable noise environments.

6.5. Alarm Lights

The device features visual alarm lights to indicate noise levels:

  • Green Light: Illuminates when the sound level is less than 60dB.
  • Red Light: Illuminates when the sound level is greater than 60dB.

6.6. Environmental Noise Reference

Understanding common noise levels can help interpret measurements:

  • 0-20 dB: Very quiet
  • 20-40 dB: Quiet, whisper, library
  • 40-60 dB: Normal indoor conversation, office
  • 60-70 dB: Noisy traffic, nerve-damaging with prolonged exposure
  • 70-90 dB: Extremely noisy, nerve cells damaged, workshop
  • 90-100 dB: Begins to damage hearing
  • 100-120 dB: Unbearable, can cause temporary deafness
  • 120 dB above: Extremely deaf or totally deaf
