2. Safety Information

  • The charger is designed for 12V and 24V Lead-Acid, LiFePO4 batteries only. Do not attempt to charge other battery types.

  • Do not expose the charger to direct sunlight or high-temperature environments.

6. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your FOXSUR FPT-250 battery charger:

  1. Plug in the AC Power: Connect the charger's power cord to a standard AC power outlet.

7. Operating Instructions

7.1. Selecting Charging Current and Mode

The FPT-250 allows you to select both the charging current and the charging mode to best suit your battery's needs.

  • Current Selection: Press the 'CURRENT' button to cycle through available charging currents (e.g., 2A, 8A, 20A, 25A).
  • Mode Selection: Press the 'MODE' button to select the appropriate battery type/charging program (CAR/BOAT, AGM, LiFePO4, REPAIR, BOOSTER).

7.2. 8-Stage Charging Process

The charger utilizes an advanced 8-stage charging process for optimal battery health and longevity:

  1. Battery Desulphation: Recovers sulfated batteries.
  2. Soft Start Charge: Gentle initial charge to protect the battery.
  3. Bulk Charge: Charges the battery to approximately 80% capacity.
  4. Absorption Charge: Charges the battery to 100% capacity at a decreasing current.
  5. Battery Test: Checks battery condition.
  6. Recondition Charge: Further reconditions the battery if needed.
  7. Float & Maintenance Charging: Maintains the battery at full charge.
  8. Re-start Charge after Battery Discharged: Automatically restarts charging if the battery voltage drops.

7.3. Booster Mode

The 'BOOSTER' mode is specifically designed for 12V batteries. When selected, the charging current reaches its maximum value, and the charging time is 200 seconds. After 200 seconds, the display screen will show "on", indicating it's ready to start the car.

8. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from the power supply and the battery before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the charger in a cool, dry place when not in use. Utilize the winding cable design for neat storage of cables.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the charging cables and clamps for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion. Replace if necessary.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the charger's fan and vents are clear of obstructions to maintain proper heat dissipation.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your FPT-250 charger, consider the following:

  • Charger not turning on: Ensure the AC power cord is securely plugged into both the charger and a live power outlet.
  • Battery not charging: Verify that the battery clamps are correctly and securely connected to the battery terminals (red to positive, black to negative). Check if the correct charging mode is selected for your battery type.
  • Error message on display: Refer to the specific error code displayed on the LED screen. Common issues include reverse polarity (ensure correct clamp connection) or a severely damaged battery (which the repair mode might attempt to address).
  • Charger feels hot: The charger has a super heat dissipation system with a fan. Some warmth during operation is normal. However, if it becomes excessively hot, ensure proper ventilation and that the fan is not obstructed.
  • Battery not holding charge after repair mode: While the repair mode can help with severely discharged or sulfated batteries, it cannot restore a battery that is internally damaged or at the end of its lifespan.

10. User Tips

  • For optimal battery health, use the appropriate charging mode for your battery type (e.g., AGM for AGM batteries, LiFePO4 for lithium iron phosphate batteries).
  • The 'REPAIR' mode can be beneficial for older or deeply discharged batteries, but it may take some time to complete.
  • Always connect the charger to the battery first, then to the AC power. When disconnecting, unplug from AC power first, then remove battery clamps.
  • The automatic temperature compensation feature helps protect your battery in varying climates, but avoid charging in extreme temperatures if possible.
