5. Installation and Setup

5.1 Compatibility Check (Crucial Step)

Before installation, it is critical to verify the LCD Display protocol compatibility with your e-bike's controller. Different e-bike brands may use different protocols. Failure to match the protocol may result in the display not functioning correctly with your e-bike.

To ensure compatibility, locate the model number and protocol information on the back of your existing display (if replacing) or consult your e-bike's manufacturer specifications. If unsure, contact the seller with this information for verification.

  2. Loosen the clamp screws on the back of the display unit.
  3. Position the display on the handlebar and tighten the screws securely. Ensure the display is stable and does not rotate during use.

  2. Locate the corresponding cable from your e-bike's controller designed for display connection.
  3. Connect the 5-pin connector from the YL61F display to the matching port on your e-bike's wiring harness. Ensure the connection is firm and correctly oriented.
  4. Once connected, ensure all cables are neatly routed and secured to prevent snagging or damage during riding.

6. Operation

6.1 Power On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the power key (usually marked with a power symbol) on the display. The instrument will start, and the e-bike's controller will be powered on.
  • To Power Off: In the power-on state, press and hold the power key again to turn off the electric vehicle's power supply. When shut down, the display consumes less than 1uA of current.
  • Automatic Shutdown: If the e-bike is not used for more than 10 minutes, the display will automatically shut down to conserve battery power.

6.2 Basic Functions

  • Assisted Gear Adjustment (PAS Level): Use the '+' and '-' buttons to increase or decrease the pedal assist level. The current level will be indicated on the display.
  • Headlight Control: A dedicated button or a combination of buttons (refer to specific e-bike controller manual if not obvious) can be used to turn the headlights on or off. The display will show an indicator when headlights are active.
  • Walk Boost: This function provides low-speed assistance for walking the e-bike. Typically activated by holding the '-' button or a specific combination.
  • Viewing Data: The display continuously shows battery level, current speed, and PAS level. Other data like trip mileage, total mileage, max speed, and average speed can usually be cycled through by short-pressing the power button or a dedicated 'MODE' button (if present).

6.3 Parameter Settings

The YL61F allows for personalized parameter settings. Accessing these settings typically involves a specific button sequence (e.g., holding '+' and '-' simultaneously for a few seconds while powered on). Once in the settings menu, use the '+' and '-' buttons to navigate and adjust values, and the power button to confirm or move to the next setting.

Common adjustable parameters include:

  • Wheel Diameter: Essential for accurate speed and mileage readings. Set this to match your e-bike's wheel size.
  • Speed Limit: Adjust the maximum assisted speed according to local regulations and personal preference.
  • Rated Voltage: Set to match your e-bike's battery voltage (36V or 48V).
  • Power Sensor Magnets: Configure based on your e-bike's pedal assist sensor.
  • Mileage Unit: Switch between Metric (Km/h, Km) and Imperial (Mile/h, Mile).
  • Controller Current Limit: Adjust the maximum current supplied to the motor.
  • Factory Default Restoration: Option to reset all parameters to their original factory settings.

Refer to your e-bike's main controller manual for specific instructions on accessing and adjusting advanced parameters, as the exact method can vary.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the display screen and body. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the plastic or screen.
  • Environmental Protection: Do not expose the display to prolonged direct sunlight, heavy rain, or extreme temperatures.
  • Connection Check: Periodically check that the electrical connector is clean, dry, and securely attached.
  • Storage: If storing your e-bike for an extended period, ensure the display is powered off.
