6. Initial Setup

The PQ9923 Chess Clock requires batteries for operation (batteries are not included). Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the clock, insert the required batteries, and ensure proper polarity. Once batteries are inserted, turn on the clock using the ON/OFF switch, also located on the underside.

7. Operating Instructions

The clock offers various modes for different game timings. You can select preset modes or customize your own.

7.1. Selecting Preset Modes

From the main display, use the [+]/UP or [-]/SOUND buttons to cycle through the available preset time modes (e.g., 5 minutes blitz, 30 minutes + 5 seconds bonus, 45 minutes + 10 seconds delay). The selected mode will be displayed.

7.2. Customizing Time Settings

  1. Long press the [PLAY/PAUSE] button to enter setting mode.
  2. Use the [+]/UP and [-]/SOUND buttons to adjust the hours, minutes, and seconds for each player.
  3. Press [PLAY/PAUSE] briefly to move between setting hours, minutes, and seconds.
  4. Once all settings are configured, long press [PLAY/PAUSE] again to exit setting mode and save your changes.

7.3. Countdown Mode

To start a game in countdown mode directly:

  1. Ensure the clock is on.
  2. Press the [PLAY/PAUSE] button. The countdown will begin for the active player.
  3. To pause the game, press [PLAY/PAUSE] again. Press it once more to resume.

7.4. Count-Up Mode

The clock supports two methods for count-up functionality:

Method 1: Starting from 0:00:00

  1. Set both players' times to 0:00:00 in setting mode.
  2. From the main display, long press the [+]/UP button for 3 seconds. The "UP" icon will appear on the display, indicating count-up mode is active.
  3. Press [PLAY/PAUSE] to start the count-up timer.

Method 2: Automatic switch after Countdown

  3. When a player's countdown time reaches zero, the clock will automatically switch to count-up mode for that player.
